Eaton’s Aerospace Group is currently seeking a Senior Controls Architect to join our team. This position can be based at our Grand Rapids, MI facility or Fort Worth, TX facilities. Remote candidates will also be considered if located within 200 miles of the following Eaton locations: Grand Rapids, MI or Fort Worth, TX. Position Overview: This is a Senior Controls Architect role, a technical leadership position responsible for directing and providing embedded controls solutions for the Aerospace Group. This position serves as a technical subject matter expert (SME) in the area of controls engineering; creates own strategy, direction, priorities and leads the team to drive business results / improvements in division/region. This leader possesses a broad strategic vision of the division’s future products and services and provides consultation in controls applications. The incumbent is involved in a wide variety and large number of projects and conducts feasibility studies to ensure objectives are met and are within budget. This role will guide the development of controls system requirements, contribute to definition of controls hardware architecture, design embedded software architecture and implement algorithm solutions, define Validation & Verification strategy; as well as the overall V-cycle process to confirm that system and functional requirements are met. The Senior Specialist will be responsible for working with team members and engineering managers to estimate development resources and timing to achieve the desired results. This role will have the opportunity to be mentored and trained by senior level managers and directors to help grow the leadership experience. The Senior Specialist will be expected to train and mentor less experienced engineers and provide technical direction to Eaton engineering centers globally. In this function you will: Lead projects/programs involving multiple components for completeness, compatibility, and compliance. Identify opportunities / connections within the company and technical associations that enhances business performance. Demonstrate leadership on software and controls engineering projects. Deep domain understanding of Model-Based software development cycles and processes including V-cycle. Provide expert input to embedded controls development activities involving aircraft system dynamics, controls/plant model simulation methodologies and xIL toolchain integration activities. Evaluate embedded system level requirements and controls algorithm proposals to meet product performance, functionality, and robustness requirements. Help define and improve embedded controls standards, processes, and contribute to industry technical papers and conferences. Invent and develop embedded control system strategies and guide architecture design to achieve solutions. Use debugging and simulation tools to efficiently perform design iterations and optimization. Verify solutions created by you or other team members through simulation, sub-system, hardware-in-the-loop and vehicle level testing. Drive implementation consistency across multiple resources contributing to the same embedded system architecture. Champion and document improvements to the engineering standard work processes used to engineer our products. Utilize industry functional safety processes to enhance design robustness. Provide strategic direction to the validation/verification process at a unit, sub-system and vehicle level to meet the controls and functional safety requirements; as well as, provided guidance to simulation, test stand and aircraft level data analysis activities. Regular attendance required. The employee may be required to work beyond normal working hours from time to time as the workload dictates. This position may require some travel to support specific program needs. Assist with new business proposals as required. Qualifications Required (Basic) Qualifications: Degree in Software, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering discipline from a nationally accredited university. Nine (9) years relevant experience with embedded control system applications or relevant engineering discipline. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship both now and in the future This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e., 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee. Preferred qualifications: Experience with Controller Networks such as CAN and ARNIC Aerospace communication bus protocol. Experience with xIL (In-the-Loop) testing and validation techniques. Experience with MATLAB/Simulink code/module generation. Experience with Model Based Controls development environment and processes. Project management skills to assess task effort, manage priorities, and report status. Strong communication skills with ability to interface directly with external partners, suppliers, and both internal and external customers. Good working knowledge of laboratory instrumentation and data acquisition systems. LabVIEW Application/FPGA development skills. Advanced degree in electrical, controls, software or relevant engineering field. The ideal candidate would have experience in, or knowledge of aerospace actuation systems and components. Experience with change management and software release processes in a team environment.
