Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Report to the General Counsel whose office provides legal advice in relation to all aspects of the HKMA’s functions
  • Advise on a wide range of legal issues including disciplinary proceedings and other contentious matters pertaining to the use of the HKMA’s powers under the regulatory regimes within its purview, including the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorist Financing Ordinance, the Banking Ordinance, the Payment Systems and Stored Value Facilities Ordinance, and the Securities and Futures Ordinance

Requirements

  • Duly admitted as a legal practitioner in a recognized jurisdiction as stipulated under the Legal Officers Ordinance
  • At least five years of post qualification experience in financial regulatory work (part of which may be gained overseas). Relevant litigation experience related to financial regulation or experience gained in a regulatory agency or in the public sector an advantage
  • Broad working knowledge of disciplinary procedures (including civil and criminal processes)
  • Positive and self-motivated with sound legal analytical skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively and provide advice clearly and concisely both in verbal and written form
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work to deadlines
  • Excellent command of both written and spoken English and Chinese; proficiency in Putonghua an advantage

(Candidates with less experience may be considered for an offer of appointment at Counsel level.)
