The Senior Customs Specialist is responsible for having an in-depth classification skill (HS/HTS) to assign appropriate codes in line with regulatory compliance as well as a firm understanding of day to day Customs operations. The candidate will be an expert in Trade Compliance for complex corporate import compliance projects including proficient classification opinions. The role will promote required trade compliance practices per CBSA, OGD and CBP,PGA in addition to other foreign Customs Authorities. Why you’ll love working for Siemens! What will you do? Provide end to end Customs operational support for regular and drop shipment business, carrier ISFs, broker pre-alerts. Ensure trade compliance in all import operations in compliance with all applicable CBSA guidelines (D-Memos/Customs Act). Distinguish and action inconsistencies in documentation which requires attention. Advanced HS classification skills are required to support complex product classification on products according to GRIs, Section/Chapter notes, WCO notes etc. and update SAP systems accordingly Ensure classification is completed effectively for Canadian Customs Tariff and US Tariff Schedule. Must be able to perform FTA determination according to Rules of Origin (CUSMA,CETA,CPTPP) Must be able to perform FTA renewal annually and support FTA requests throughout calendar year. Determine and document customs classification for Export. Determine and provide input on OGD/SIMA and other requirements applicable to the product. Efficiently and effectively manages workload to include competing priorities and deadlines, ensuring on-time completion of activities. Liase with Customs broker(s)/ service providers, address classification and operational issues. Support day-to-day HS activity and entry requirements, with valid use of duty risk evaluation practices. Support CBSA audits and projects in compilation of information related to HS classification performed Research and compose business cases to support maximum duty reductions and binding rulings. Identify and recommend process improvements Support Customs department as required. Support regular customs operations and invoice processing. CSA knowledge is an asset. Team Lead knowledge is an asset Export Knowledge is an asset What will you need to succeed? 5-8 years of related experience in classifying products mainly machinery and electronics. High attention to detail. Up-to-date knowledge of current legislation and policies Familiar with Global trade and freight forwarding Strong computer skills including SAP, Microsoft Office Strong organization and change management skills Must be team oriented. Education CCS designation. CTCS Designation. Post-Secondary degree/diploma in a related field (Preferred Customs and International Business) About us.
