Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

We are seeking a motivated engineer who can implement/enhance storage and compute memory products in Azure Hardware Infrastructure and innovate with new techniques in improving performance and reliability to our Azure services. The development environment is highly collaborative and involves leveraging other teams as well as understanding customers’ and partners’ requirements. Your work will span the full hardware lifecycle from early engagements with industry suppliers and startups, through the design phase, and continue in post-production issues, triage, debug and resolution.

Memory/DRAM Quality Reliability Engineers provide project management, product, process design/development and sustaining support for integrated circuit or semiconductor assemblies, various other electronic components, sub systems and/or completed units. Responsible for physical understanding, model prediction and enhancement of the quality & reliability for DRAM products (DDR4/5 memory modules) and testing process. Defines assembly/DIMM module qualification requirement and responsible for product reliability qualification. Design of reliability infrastructure including test equipment setup. Design of reliability test characterization experiments. Development of reliability models. Determining process and product requirements. Analysis of experiments including very large data sets. You will establish and carry out Quality and Reliability requirements such as specifications, Defects per Million (DPM), Failure-In-Time (FIT), and Lifetimes/MTBF.   In this role, you will work with engineering teams to ensure product reliability methods are in place, followed, perform risk assessments and provide support for field excursion in regard to reliability issues. You will

  • Work with Microsoft partners to conduct New Product Qualification Define qualification requirements
  • Understand failures and failure rate within the scope of the qualification
  • Perform risk assessment at all decision points within the qualification cycle
  • Review qualification data and approve Qual requirements have been met
  • Develop product reliability tests to assess new DRAM products failure mechanisms
  • Coordinate/drive necessary specification definition on existing products
  • Communicate nonconformances to defined release/acceptance criteria
  • Communicate issues and corrective actions across all DRAM products
  • Provide Internal Technical Support for Customer Support Teams
  • Assist DRAM RMA Team with analysis of returned material
  • Perform additional data collection per customer request

Participate in component supplier selection activity and drive component qualification activity for components that are critical to Microsoft product requirements

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • M.S in Electrical Engineering or Material Science or Computer Science
  • 8+ years of experience in hardware development designing moderate to complex hardware products with experience in
  • In-depth understanding of DRAM and SCM technologies and design trade-offs for specific applications. Technological understanding of DDR4/5, Wide I/O, HBM, PCM, 3DXP, ReRAM, FRAM, NV-DIMM, and DRAM manufacturing.
  • Managing multiple design qualification activities and development schedules
  • Use knowledge of manufacturing process capability as well as system-level performance requirements to establish Critical-to-Reliability performance metrics
  • Strong working knowledge of PCBA (printed circuit board assembly) and electronic component failure mechanisms
  • Understanding of computer and other electronic hardware architectures
  • Knowledge of statistics and statistical data analysis
  • Familiarity with JMP, Weibull or similar statistical analysis software
  • Programming experience with Python/Perl or C
  • Comprehensive working knowledge with industry standards, IPC, JEDEC, Telcordia, and MIL. standards
  • Comprehensive working knowledge with life test, ALT, HALT and HASS design and execution
  • Ability to communicate, collaborate and lead cross-functionally to resolve issues, including with customers
  • Excellent verbal/written communication, interpersonal and computer skills required
