Eaton’s Electrical Engineering Services & Systems is currently seeking a Senior Design Engineer to join our team. This position will be based remotely in Raleigh, NC. Position Overview: Eaton’s Modular Solutions Program is a dynamic and growing segment with the larger EESS organization. The Modular Solutions Program includes Modular Integrated Transportable Substations (MITS), pad mounted reclosers, and low voltage critical (UPS-centric) and non-critical enclosures & skids. As Eaton looks to grow this segment, the Modular Solutions Product Line has an opening for a Senior Design Engineer (SDE) to support the Modular Solutions portfolio of offerings. The core team supporting this this role is located in Raleigh, NC. While Raleigh, NC is a preferred location, remote locations will be considered for well-qualified candidates. This position will report to the Modular Solutions Program Manager. This position will be the engineering lead for assigned opportunities during proposal stage as well as the project execution engineering design phases. As this is a senior engineer position, the candidate should demonstrate strong technical aptitude. This position will provide engineering leadership to teams of discipline-specific engineers to create complete designs including both electrical and layout packages. The SDE is responsible for managing design deliverables to maintain project schedule, design budget, design accuracy, and submittal completeness working in concert with other designers. The SDE is charged with value added engineering of team designs to provide a quality product while driving efficiencies. The SDE shall act as a single point of contact to project manager for design technical assistance. Other tasks that the SDE will take part in include scope development, estimating, and subcontractor bid leveling. In this function you will: Interpret project specifications and provide a detailed specification response with support from application engineers; assist sales with technical proposals/bid packages. Be a liaison for the Modular Solutions business to customers, both internal and external. Interface with vendors and purchasing team on requesting quotes. Develop vendor requirements as part of RFQ to vendors. Review pricing and technical response of vendors to ensure scope of supply is well defined and adequately addressed in bid. In the absence of firm customer specifications or design, be able to perform engineering system design for customized modular solutions to include UPS systems, switchboards, panelboards, transformers, and other electrical infrastructure equipment as required to meet basic customer requirements. Develop and improve test plans and inspection check sheets to ensure quality of final delivered solution. Provide oversight and direction for testing and inspections both at the factory, at integrators, and at customer sites as needed. Ability to present training and/or guidance to customers on the operation and maintenance of the supplied modular solution. Interface with Project Execution team (Mission Critical and Project Operations) for system applications and order summary information. Lead the technical execution of assigned projects in partnership with the assigned Project Manager for project hand-off and technical support during the project. Contribute to Modular Solutions product management technology roadmap with support of Product Manager Contribute feedback on form, fit, function of proposed designs in design reviews Other duties as assigned When we embrace the different ideas, perspectives and backgrounds that make each of us unique, we — as individuals and as a company — are stronger. Qualifications Required (Basic) Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree 7 years of related electrical industry experience in design and/or construction projects US Citizen or Permanent Resident Possess and maintain a valid and unrestricted driver’s license Experience with AutoCAD and 3D Modeling software such as Inventor, or similar Preferred qualifications: Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Experience with the integration of UPS and switchboards onto a skid or within an enclosure Experience providing technical support to product sales teams Experience with proposal development in all of Eaton's end markets (Industrial, Commercial, Data Center, Healthcare, Utility, Institutional and Government). Experience sizing HVAC equipment for cooling electrical equipment Experience specifying batteries for UPS applications, including lithium ion technology Position Criteria: Electrical Systems focus Results driven Self-starter, accountable Strong experience to deliver technical solutions to customers Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to be flexible to adjust to changing project conditions. Strong computer skills Moderate to advanced knowledge of Eaton’s BidMan tools Proactive at solving issues before becoming problems.
