Come and be a key technical contributor on the fast paced, high energy team. This is a management position in a high-profile business for Microsoft. As a Director of Manufacturing Test Engineering, you will be responsible for development and/or deployment of manufacturing test strategy for Microsoft branded Hardware. You will work with product development, Quality and NPI teams, just to mention a few, to define test requirement and to deploy testers in a timely manner. You will work with external suppliers as development and deployment partners. You will manage suppliers, by closely monitoring their engineering and business performance. Success will depend on working closely with and influencing cross-functional and cross organizational teams.
Responsibilities
A strong background in engineering discipline on a wide variety of products, excellent technical and analytical skills, strong written and verbal communication, the ability to influence and produce excellent technical designs, experience leading highly capable teams and demonstrating a proven track record of shipping products. Technical strengths must include knowledge of hardware development and quality assurance. Knowledge of low, medium to high volume consumer product manufacturing, hardware production lifecycles, and new hardware product launch processes are strongly desired. Ability to articulate and weigh the trade-offs in software architecture and design based on many competing requirements including cost, schedule, technical necessity and others. System engineering strengths must include the ability to define and refine system architecture for measurement and test systems working with cross-company teams of our development partners to meet overall program objectives. This will be an ideal opportunity to show your strong leadership skills at the organizational level as you work closely with the development and business owners, forming and aligning the software vision for testing our products in our factories. This is a unique opportunity for a Software or Systems Engineer who will bring in a strong technical foundation and great engineering practices, and who is looking for a chance to participate more in the end-to-end business decision-making process, with its broader scope and vision. The successful candidate will be able to motivate and collaborate across engineering and business disciplines to meet very aggressive schedule and cost goals.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 10 years of Hardware Management experience
- A minimum of 5 years of manufacturing experience
- Multi-disciplinary (EE, ME, RF, Audio, Optics) team management
- A sense of urgency, passion and understanding of overall business priorities is essential
- Passionate about strong design processes and engineering excellence
- Demonstrated team leadership skills
- Demonstrated ability to persuade and influence internal and external groups
- BS degree in EE or ME or equivalent field, MS or MBA a plus
- Experience developing business (cost/ tradeoff) analyses
- Excellent communications skills
- Strong technical skills
- Experience with high-volume world-class design and manufacturing techniques for consumer electronic products
- Individual contributor skills necessary for success include strong customer focus, action/ results oriented, detailed planning and organizing, self-managed, flexible, thrive on change, change agent, able to achieve success in a dynamic environment, and a passion for technology
- Previous Test Engineering experience a plus
- Cross cultural awareness and understanding
- Flexibility for limited travel internationally and domestically, and to work off hours to support business in Asia
