YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of this role, Senior Director Biological Development (BD) Operations, are to: 

• Provide effective leadership including developing and implementing objectives and business strategies;
• Select key personnel and motivate members of the functional area;
• Assist with Performance Calibration/Talent Pool Management/Succession Planning;
• Set individual goals and review performance;
• Provide training and development;
• Support workforce diversity, quality and safety and support supervisors/managers in management of their employees/department which support achievement of individual/department/business objectives;
• Lead the BD Operations function for BD at the Berkeley site including establishment of department overall objectives in alignment with BD;
• Lead department to ensure high performance and alignment with Biotech business and BD needs;
• Implement and/or improve on processes to support BD in the areas including (but not limited to) procurement, finance, equipment, automation, safety, training, project coordination and GLP archiving;
• Identify gaps, issues and opportunities of current processes and develop solutions;
• Lead Operational Excellence and Strategic projects;
• Actively drive key department HSE topics to ensure job safety and Biological Safety goals and HSE compliance;
• Ensure maintenance and technical support.

Required Qualifications:

• At least eight years of professional employment in academic and/or industrial areas, including at least five years of managerial, and financial experience or equivalent combination of education and experience;
• Proven Project management skills;
• Proficiency in Financial accounting knowledge;
• Proven record of creativity, initiative, analytical and conceptual thinking;
• Proven record of successful process improvements;
• Strong leadership, interpersonal, communication, and team building skills;
• Ability to adapt to changing business requirement in a dynamic, matrix environment;
• Ability to build and maintain trust with business partners within and outside BD;
• Ability to ensure cross-functional communication and collaboration within and outside BD;
• Broad knowledge of accounting principles;
• Strong understanding of managerial accounting, project forecasting and budgeting;
• Understanding of purchasing activities and managing payments;
• Experience with global drug development.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Ph.D. degree in biological sciences or related discipline;
• Proficiency in SAP;
• Recent experience in the biotechnology industry.
