The Senior Director for Computational Biology within the GRC at AbbVie, a Fortune 50 Company, will be responsible to lead a global team of Computational Biologists and bioinformatics engineers to collaboratively drive Drug Discovery and Development efforts across all therapeutic areas. This leader will leverage modern digital technologies to collect real-world, longitudinal, and integrative health data, across genomic, digital, and laboratory assays, and focused on relevant populations for or treated with AbbVie therapeutics

Reporting into the Vice President of Genomics Research and Data Integration at AbbVie, this Senior Director will play a key role in building and leading a multi-disciplinary team focused on leveraging over 1 million genomes, cutting-edge OMICS data, deep clinical data, and large real-world data sets to advance and accelerate AbbVie’s pipeline and have a remarkable impact on patient lives. The Senior Director will build and maintain world-class computational biology and bioinformatics capabilities enabling cutting edge science in close collaboration with Drug Discovery and Development by driving a future-fit strategy to achieve scientific and culture goals across the Corporation. The successful candidate will be a member of the Genomics Research Center Leadership team and collaborate with a diverse and interdisciplinary team of scientists from human genetics/biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, biostatistics/statistical genetics, and clinical backgrounds to generate and implement impactful analytical strategies to enable existing and new therapeutic opportunities, both internal and evaluation of external opportunities As part of their role the successful candidate will ensure scientific excellence and the use of best practices across teams, identify project targets and/or innovative technologies and prioritize within the context of overall strategy, resource availability, competitive dynamics, and functional goals. Department leadership responsibilities will include leading the science while coordinating resources across programs and teams and managing a team of computational leaders and 50+ scientists enabling the teams to accomplish their long and short-term goals in collaboration with Vice President of Genomics Research and Data Integration along with other senior leaders. Exemplify advanced knowledge level, perception, and intuition across a broad range of drug discovery and development projects. Work with the Data Integration (Convergence) Program to drive and leverage a novel, forward thinking knowledge platform. Leverage world-class resources, large data sets and a gifted team to lead a program that is internationally recognized in academia, biotech and large pharmaceutical companies for driving the application of AI/ML to large data sets.
