In this role, you will be a part of the Global Portfolio & Project Management organization (GPPM) and aligned to Oncology.  You will be responsible for managing a team of 3 and driving activities for our early Oncology, late Oncology and haematology portfolios, as well as driving key deliverables such as Oncology TA strategy, monthly portfolio updates, portfolio prioritization, and our annual scorecard.  You will also lead portfolio-supporting efforts needed to optimize decision-making across the portfolio.  This role is also critical in ensuring GPPM remains a great place to work, and you will be a visible leader with both the GPPM Oncology organization and the GPPMLT, ORDLT and TALT.

Responsibilities

Portfolio Management and Oversight

  • Leading periodic management updates on portfolio composition and performance
  • Developing and driving insightful analytics which can shape understanding and influence positive portfolio outcomes
  • Support GPPM-wide efforts to support / enhance portfolio data quality
  • Working with senior leaders to understand and expand portfolio management activities to meet organizational needs

Leading Key Portfolio Supporting Processes

  • Takes a visible leadership role in delivering key portfolio-supporting processes
  • Lead annual portfolio-based corporate and R&D scorecard process (ASL) – ensuring portfolio goals link to key strategy goals
  • Facilitate portfolio prioritization - early and late stage – for ~130 project portfolio, including 3x annual prioritization process with Oncology TALT
  • Oversee periodic portfolio performance reviews with key Oncology leaders

TA Strategy Leadership

  • Drives the process for and delivery of annual Oncology TA Strategy
  • Oversight and delivery of key TA strategy related initiatives related to TA strategy and/or portfolio
  • Anticipated frequent interactions with TALT and strategy and franchise leaders within ORDLT and OBULT to support delivery of TA strategy

GPPM and Team Leadership

  • Takes a visible leadership role within GPPM and Oncology R&D organizations
  • Lead team of 3, including portfolio managers and TALT operations lead; identifies development opportunities of direct reports, together with planning effectively for succession
  • Creates a great place to work environment via expectation setting, goal development, recruiting/staffing, mentoring, and leading a highly effective team
  • Serves as a role model for cross-functional collaboration and effective conflict resolution.
  • Leads by example in learning, innovation seeking opportunities to change paradigm and removes barriers within and outside the team.
  • Uses business knowledge to drive cross-project learning, champion and embed better ways of working across the enterprise, helping to establish new company best practices.

Skills and Experience

Essential Requirements

  • Experience in Portfolio Management with an track record of success in leading  cross functional working groups and teams
  • Experience developing and delivering portfolio reports, insightful analyses on drug portfolios, strategic initiatives and portfolio deliverables such as prioritization, scorecards
  • Sophisticated demeanor, bearing and approach sufficient to position the incumbent for interaction with senior level executives in delivering effective presentations and providing information to influence major decisions
  • Client-oriented, consultative approach.  Previous advisory roles, such as consulting, preferred.
  • 10 plus years experience
  • Advanced degree in in a scientific discipline and/or MBA preferred
  • Broad business perspective and acumen, goal-oriented approach, process orientation and strategic focus
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate multiple projects concurrently.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills and ability to develop strong relationships with senior leaders and other key stakeholders.
  • Excellent management and matrix team leadership skills that include the ability to provide direction and lead multi-disciplinary teams on highly collaborative efforts resulting in successful implementation.
  • Willingness and proven ability to function in a hands-on capacity when necessary to achieve milestones, resolve issues and build an organization/function capable of driving toward measurable objectives.

Desirable

  • Experience in organizational leadership, manager of managers
  • Direct experience within drug discovery and development; experience in product development, product launch and exposure to life cycle management in Oncology
  • Cross functional, multi-cultural, and global work experience preferred
