The Economist Group’s thought leadership (TL) division produces high quality editorial content for a wide range of global corporate clients, foundations and governments. The team sells content programs addressing business and geopolitical trends to senior marketing and communications executives in a diverse range of industries and sectors.

We are looking for a top-notch senior editor with a minimum of five years experience to join our thriving Thought Leadership division. Editors are required to manage research programmes covering a range of topics from financial services to technology and infrastructure. Experience in covering the healthcare industry is an advantage. The role involves creating and executing innovative, high quality content programmes. You will be a team player with strong analytical capabilities, editorial flair, excellent project and client management skills, high energy and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Accountabilities

How you will contribute:
  • Conceptualise and manage sponsored content programmes that are produced by The Economist Intelligence Unit
  • Work closely and effectively with clients, salespeople, writers and other members of the editorial team
  • Ensure that the editorial integrity of the Economist Intelligence Unit is maintained at all times during the course of projects
  • Work with the sponsorship sales team to make calls on clients and develop new business
  • Write proposals for sponsored research projects
  • Be the principal point of contact with sponsors during the course of projects
  • Liaise with clients to keep them informed of developments and to respond to their concerns
  • Manage the programme budget to meet margin requirements
  • Ensure all research is of the highest quality by focusing on the accuracy of the text and numerical analysis. This will require the candidate to be highly literate, numerate and detail-oriented
  • Work with our methodology and survey teams, research, draft and analyse online surveys related to research projects
  • Work with other research divisions to conceptualize benchmarking indices, forecasting exercises and scenario analysis programmes
  • Ensure that writers are clear about their responsibilities and hit their deadlines without fail
  • Edit writers' copy and participate fully in the edit and review process with sponsors
  • Present at and facilitate events run by Economist Conferences and clients

Experience, skills and professional attributes

The ideal skills for this role are:
  • A bachelor’s degree (advanced degree preferred). Relevant areas of study include but are not limited to healthcare, economics, finance, business, English and communications
  • Over 5 years of previous work experience in editorial/content/communications
  • Strong understanding of, and experience working with, the financial services sector
  • Ability to move quickly up the learning curve on any topic from business- and industry-related issues to new technologies; intellectual curiosity
  • Editorial flair
  • Experience in writing and editing research-based reports
  • Good understanding of data and writing about numbers
  • Good understanding of international business and management issues
  • Outstanding client presence, experience dealing with senior executives
  • Exceptional project management skills with experience managing multiple projects and priorities simultaneously, managing to deadlines
  • Experience managing outside contributors and vendors
  • Strong public speaking skills
  • Great presentation and communication skills, with an emphasis on diplomacy, relationship-building and stakeholder management
  • Ease in uncertain environments, flexibility, openness to change
  • A self-starter, with the drive to set and reach ambitious goals
  • Some supervisory/management experience
  • Good team player
  • Strong desire to provide excellent client services, enjoyment from working with clients
  • Proficiency in Word and PowerPoint; Excel strongly preferred
  • Experience with WordPress or other Content Management Systems a plus
  • Native English language skills; Asian languages a definite asset
