Job Description
Eaton’s CPD PCD Power Components Division is currently seeking for a Senior Product Engineer to join our team. This position is based at our Arecibo, PR facility Perform product design engineering for Eaton’s Industrial Circuit Breaker product lines. Primary focus is ensuring that products function according to customer requirements. Maintain compliance of products with standards. Assist with resolution of production issues relating to product function. Improve reliability and performance margin of product designs while reducing their costs. Participate in new product development and production launches in order to drive business growth Responsibilities: Understand product requirements, applications & governing standards (UL, CSA, IEC, NEMA, etc.), test procedures, and circuit breaker technology & design intent. Develop, document and interpret design specifications to support the requirements. Maintain compliance with requirements, standards and specifications, and maintain third-party certifications. Respond to non-conformances with investigations and corrective action. Evaluate material, supplier and product design deviations and changes, and approve or reject them according to performance requirements. Enhance performance margin and drive product design robustness. Participate in global team-based product design and development including new ratings, features, and accessories for existing product platforms, and new products. Contribute to validation and design documentation. Learn and participate in PROLaunch stage-gate new product development system. Utilize statistical quality tools to design tests, analyze data and evaluate and improve designs. Establish performance baselines and identify focus areas and targets for product design robustness improvements. Perform and leverage computer modeling & simulation activities in the product design engineering role. Perform tolerance analysis on systems and components to optimize specifications on product drawings. Build prototypes and models and develop test plans where necessary to validate product performance. Perform design-related testing in lab facilities. Understand and comply with site specific laboratory equipment and procedures, including health, safety and security aspects. Define and communicate critical-to-quality characteristics of product designs. Learn and apply Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing, and Design for Six Sigma methodology to circuit breaker design engineering activities. Work with local and remote manufacturing processes owners (fabrication, assembly, welding, calibration) to understand fundamental capabilities and ensure that design specifications are practical and cost effective to produce and are being met in production. Participate in the development of production processes, tooling, equipment, test specifications and quality controls in order to support compliance with specifications. Effectively communicate requirements, present design reviews and project updates, and prepare reports. Document and control design revisions (drawing and bill-of-material) using Engineering Change Orders in the product data management system. Provide technical application information to customers, and coordinate with cross-functional project teams. Participate in innovation events and technology exploration or demonstration projects. Capture potential intellectual property. Comply with approved policies and processes and perform other administrative tasks as assigned. #LI-VIT1 Qualifications Basic Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution 3 years of experience working in electromechanical component or systems design Bilingual with fluency in Spanish and English No relocation offered for this position Must be authorized to work legally in US without sponsorship May require 20% international travel. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with Six-Sigma quality tools General knowledge of product design for cost-effective manufacture, working knowledge of regulatory standards. Experience with engineering computer applications. Pro/Engineer, Sold Works or similar, Excel, and computer-based simulation modeling (static stress, thermal, kinematics/dynamics, tolerances, etc.).
