In Redford, Michigan, the focus is on Powertrain and eDrive technology as well as in Long Beach, where the teams test durability of the latest driver assistant and telematic systems. The Digital Hub in Seattle focusses on developing a cloud architecture and building out the cloud platform for the next generation of connected car services. The Testing and Regulatory Affairs Division in Ann Arbor and the Advanced Vehicle Design in Carlsbad complete the competence center.



Job Introduction: (Primary purpose of this position)         
Perform engine control function calibration to meet emission targets across multiple (hybrid-) engines, vehicles, and markets.  Ensure emission compliance through rigorous testing, issue analysis, and issue resolution.


Key Tasks & Responsibilities
Calibrate engine control functions on direct injection homogeneous charge engines including hybrid powertrains, both boosted and naturally aspirated, to meet emission targets.  Typical functional areas are:
•Lambda control and adaption
•Catalyst heating, temperature maintenance
•Thermal protection and O2 storage balancing.
•Catalyst oxygen storage determination and catalyst oxygen purge.
•Engine start and enrichment
•Canister purge control diagnostic functions.
•Stop/Start strategy
•Combustion functions
•Perform development and validation testing in vehicles on road and on chassis & engine dynamometers (if required).
•Develop and manage calibration variants supporting multiple vehicle types and target markets.
•Participate in test drives for cold, hot, and high altitude development and validation.
•Analyze and summarize data.  Concisely report results, conclusions, and recommendations.
•Support the engineering team through mentoring and experience sharing.

Required Qualifications


- Minimum level of education required and required field of study: 
Bachelor / Master’s in Mechanical, Electrical, or Automotive Engineering
 

- Minimum skills required : 
•Hands-on experience developing calibrations to meet emission requirements.
•Hands-on experience understanding and working with complex control functions.
•Hands-on experience with calibration development tools such as ETAS INCA and Vector CANalyzer/CANape, Matlab.
•Electrical motor experience and/or combustion experiences a big plus
•In-depth knowledge of: basic combustion processes, emission formation, emission control, and after-treatment systems.
•In-depth knowledge of emission/combustion testing procedures and regulations.
•Ability to facilitate issue resolution in cases of conflicting requirements between emissions, drivability, diagnostics, and fuel consumption.
•Excellent system-level problem solving skills.
•Excellent data analysis and presentation skills.
•Well organized, highly motivated, and able to work in a multicultural environment.  • Willingness to train additional employees in the subject matter.
•Knowledge of MS Office programs, email clients, and databases.
•Willing to travel domestically and/or internationally as required. 
•Valid driver’s license.


Combination of Degree and Years of experience acceptable (minimum) :            
- Bachelors + 5 yrs / Masters + 3 yrs / PhD


Preferred Qualifications:
•Experience with direct injection gasoline engines and hybrid powertrains.  Calibration experience in other areas such as e-motor, base engine/combustion, OBD and emissions optimization.
•Ability to facilitate issue resolution in cases of conflicting requirements between emissions, drivability, diagnostics, and fuel consumption.
•Experience with control function development is a plus. 
•Experience with high ethanol content fuels is a plus. 
•In depth emission certification & regulatory experiences is plus
•German language a plus.
