Eaton is currently seeking a Senior Engineer, Vacuum Interrupter to join our team. This position is based out of our Horseheads, NY location. Relocation assistance will be provided. Position Overview: Eaton is seeking a senior vacuum interrupter engineer for the Power Component Division of its Electrical Sector. This position is responsible for developing, designing, testing vacuum interrupters, and advancing its associated vacuum arc interruption technologies. In this function you will: Lead effort in developing new vacuum interrupter product by leveraging voice of customers (VOC). Drive technology innovation and generate value added intellectual properties. Employ effectively Eaton new product development Prelaunch and ProLaunch processes to drive VI NPD and support VI business growth. Become familiar with relevant IEEE and IEC standards and participate in IEEE Switchgear Committee activities as needed. Master the knowledge of VI manufacturing process so he/she can better perform the following functions: Actively contribute to plant cost out initiatives. Actively engage in manufacturing trouble shootings, and new process developments. Understand customer product and applications in order to provide timely support to quality-hold resolution and customer failure analysis. Understand functions and characteristics of key VI components in order to provide timely support to new material or new source development needs from the Supply Chain. Create technical reports and presentations. Collaborate with Power Component Division multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural, and globally distributed teams to achieve project goals. Collaborate with teams from Eaton Research Labs, Electrical Sector Center of Excellence, and external technology resources (National Labs and Universities) for technology and product innovation Qualifications Required (Basic) Qualifications: B.S. in engineering from an accredited institution Minimum 5 years of related engineering experience in designing, developing and testing vacuum interrupters or vacuum interrupter- based MV breaker/switchgear. Preferred Qualifications: B.S. in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or equivalent: 10 years of related engineering experience in designing, developing and testing vacuum interrupters Hands-on experience in developing and testing vacuum interrupter/breakers and MV switchgear Familiar with relevant code & standards MV breaker/switchgear Basic knowledge of program management and use of Eaton Prelaunch and Prolaunch processes for VI NPD Strong understanding of electrical power systems Enthusiastic, creative, and self-motivated individual Experience in product thermal and reliability design Experience working in diverse cultural situations with global customers and team members Demonstrated knowledge of engineering processes Professional: Self-motivated and goal-oriented individual. Good communication and presentation skills Collaborative orientation, the ability to succeed in a highly team-oriented, global, and diverse environment.
