FUSE Labs is an agile cross-disciplinary lab within Microsoft Experience and Devices (E+D). FUSE is at the forefront of Microsoft’s focus on Bots and Conversational AI. We provide a platform and services to create conversation-based experiences that enable people to interact with products and services in an intelligent manner, including speech, graphics (cards), or text, using pattern matching, state tracking and artificial intelligence techniques, such as LUIS.ai, QnA Maker), Azure Machine Learning, and Microsoft Bot Framework.
We’re growing our team and are looking for a Senior designer (IC) who is passionate about and have experience with AI, language understanding, conversation design and/or speech and creating new experiences for a wide variety of industries including Customer Support, Retail and Automotive. Responsibilities
- Envision and design - Leading by example and hands-on design to create, sketch or build scenarios, storyboards, flows, information architecture diagrams, wireframes, prototypes and other artifacts to effectively communicate a design vision, concepts, and detailed design for Natural Language Understanding, Machine Learning and Teaching, and Conversational Experiences for a variety of platforms (speech, text, visuals and combinations of these).
- Explore and generate – Inspire and be inspired by what’s happening in the industry and generate diverse and creative solutions, fast.
- Communicate - Turning technically complex concepts into useful, usable and beautiful experiences based on deep understanding of customers, their objectives and workflows.
- Collaborate - Building strong relationships with designers, program managers and engineers in and outside the immediate team to plan, define objectives, success criteria, requirements, and creative solutions that take advantage of the strength and expertise of all involved.
- Build and create - Leverage existing UX models and patterns and explore & define new UX models, patterns and guidelines where needed.
- Inspire and facilitate – Be(come) an active member of the design team and Microsoft community, bringing new techniques, approaches processes, methods to design & the design process.
Qualifications
- A portfolio demonstrating your process and expertise in designing (and delivering) delightful products and experiences targeted to a professional audience.
- 5+ years of experience in user experience, interaction and visual design of products, software and/or services. Design experience in the following is a plus.
- Natural Language understanding
- Machine learning and AI
- Voice, speech and/or conversational UX
- Interactive design prototyping
- Motion design
- Visual design language & systems
- Experience in and comfortable with highly technical concepts and close collaboration with as well design for a highly technical audience.
- A university or college degree, or equivalent, in Interface Design, Interaction Design, Communication Design, Graphic Design, Architecture etc.
- Experience with (developing and conducting) user research studies, synthesis of feedback, and design of inspiring solutions based on customer insights.
- Creation of interaction, visual and motion design documents and prototypes including user scenarios, task flows, conceptual models, storyboards, wireframes, motion studies, visual style guidelines competitor analysis, and heuristic analysis.
- Strong visual sensibilities and ability to define and guide the creation of a design language.
- Experience creating and defining UI pattern libraries and interaction guidelines.
- Fluent in using design tools such as Adobe Suite and Sketch; experience with other tools ranging from HTML/CSS to Proto.IO/Framer or other, is a plus.
- Comfortable with a variety of development processes and methodologies including agile.
- Experience in effective collaboration and partnering with other teams.
- Excellent communication (written, verbal and visual), presentation and organizational, project and time management skills.
