The Manufacturing and Supply Chain Finance team within Devices Finance is looking for a motivated individual with enthusiasm to take on a high impact role to align the financial elements of our Manufacturing, Sourcing and Capital Investment strategies with our Devices product roadmap.
The focus of this role is two-fold:
- Work with a number of partner teams to ensure that the financial structure of our design and manufacturing agreements are aligned to our overall business needs, and
- Understand, analyze and influence the cost of manufacturing our devices, starting with early phases of product life cycle, including the manufacturing fees we pay our suppliers and the capital investments we make for each particular product as well as for our overall product portfolio.
The Devices Finance team contributes to Microsoft hardware business and drives profitable growth by:
- Being trusted advisors to our business partners
- Driving cost efficiency with operational teams
- Providing predictability and active monitoring of risks and opportunities
- Ensuring controls and compliance
Our team is responsible for the cost of producing Microsoft Devices including Xbox, Surface, HoloLens, Surface Hub, and PC accessories. The successful candidate will bring a combination of financial and accounting insights, real world business experience, leadership and influence skills to drive superior financial results in close alignment with our business partners. Responsibilities
- Be the finance point of contact as we establish a variety of hybrid outsourced design and manufacturing models; partnering closely with Sourcing, New Product Introduction, Development and peer Finance teams
- Partner with cross functional teams to align product roadmap with supplier and manufacturing strategies
- Partner with cross functional teams to align supplier deal structure with investment strategies and operations
- Analyze supplier quotes and alternatives and provide financial recommendations for the award of business for the manufacture of our devices
- Establish factory-based financial measures for new product introduction from inception through launch and drive performance and accountability
- Develop deep understanding on manufacturing process to accurately understand and forecast the costs of manufacturing our products and drive clarity on changes to costs throughout the product lifecycle
- Engage with other finance peers to ensure consistencies in reporting and align with accounting on proper treatment
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in finance, business, economics or related field, with engineering or operation background a plus
- 5+ years of demonstrated finance work experience.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment is a plus.
- Excellent business partnership and a track record of influence the business through financial analysis and insight
- Ability to deal with ambiguity, create clarity and manage multiple workstreams in a fast-paced environment
- Able to handle critical and difficult conversation with diverse stakeholders
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral), including an ability to communicate effectively with executive management at Microsoft
- Excellent problem-solving and able to work at multiple altitudes, from strategic and high-level framing to detailed analysis; proficiency in excel and modeling a must
- Must be able to travel 25%-50%
- Knowledge of the Consumer Electronics industry is preferred but not mandatory
