Job Description
The Senior Financial Accountant role has responsibility for life insurance accounting, internal and external reporting for AIA New Zealand as well as supporting the IFRS 17 Project Finance work stream.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure financial control is maintained over AIA’s transactions and assets to ensure its assets are properly protected

  • Full involvement in the month end trial balance process, including:
  • Journals into GL
  • Analysis of monthly results
  • Reconciliation and quality assurance.
  • Both internal and external reporting for the AIA group

  • Ensure the trial balance is compliant with IPSA, including management of mapping tables to ensure the GL is compliant with RBNZ regulations

  • Full involvement in the statutory and other external reporting processes for AIA New Zealand, including financial statements, annual reports and RBNZ reporting

  • Full involvement in the external financial reporting requirements for inclusion in CBA and supporting analysis for these requirements

  • Provide support with the administration of SAP, including month end close off and adhoc queries to support the business.

  • Actively work to identify, manage and mitigate risks that impact financial reporting

  • Actively work to identify and execute initiatives that will enable the Finance & Actuarial division to achieve productivity and efficiency objectives

  • Liaise with external auditors for the half year and full year financial statements

  • Collaborate and contribute to the development and high performance of the wider Finance & Actuarial division team

  • Assist wider AIA project teams (Group and New Zealand) with user acceptance testing (UAT) during the development implementation of IFRS 17

  • Support parallel run activities such as construction of opening balance sheets and review the parallel run results

  • Support the development and implementation of IFRS 17 accounting requirements and application guidance

  • Support local business units and other workstreams on resolving IFRS 17 issues from accounting and technical perspective

Support the Finance Workstream Lead for any related activities of development and implementation of IFRS 17

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Strong Excel skills and good understanding of SAP
  • Proven ability in building effective relationships and working as part of a high performing teams
  • Accounting experience, particularly in month end processes and financial statements preparation
  • Proven ability to think and execute quality team-output under tight timelines
  • Good analytical thinking and problem-solving ability
  • Complete complex reconciliations between how SAP replicates results in the IFRS 17 ledger and compare them back to the original Finance 1 and IFRS 4 SAP results.
  • Self -starter with ability and desire to learn quickly and adapt in a dynamic work environment
  • Able to work with minimal oversight from the IFRS 17 Project Finance work stream lead
  • Comfortable dealing with ambiguity and can cope effectively with uncertainty, or temporary lack of clarity
  • Can move between tasks quickly and effectively and can ‘shift gears’ comfortably
  • Ability to decide and act without having all the facts or the total picture
