The Azure Cloud Server Infrastructure (CSI) team is seeking a self-motivated hardware engineer to work in a team of other hardware engineers to investigate electrical and optical connectivity to be deployed in Microsoft’s Azure Cloud. As a senior member of this team, you will work directly with engineers across the company and industry suppliers for validation and qualification of electrical and optical cabling and connectivity. Responsibilities will include developing requirements and specifications for connectivity solutions, and ensuring the solutions meet those requirements and specifications over the lifetime of their installation. Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

• Work with internal teams to define and specify network switch requirements
• Interact with external component vendors to influence their product developments to align with Microsoft’s requirements
• Coordinate with hardware and software teams on implementation, testing and management
• Develop and maintain test procedures to validate and improve networking switch requirements
• Collaborate to ensure systems meet significant quality, reliability and service level requirements for a cloud environment
• Participate in industry standards setting organizations and industry forums to influence networking specifications

Qualifications

Qualifications:

• BS/MS Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering
• 10+ years of relevant experience in Ethernet networking including switch architectures, optical communications and network topologies
• Knowledge and experience with fiber optics, optical components and module form factors
• Experience developing Ethernet networking switch specifications and test plans
• Experience working with ODMs and OEMs on Ethernet switch requirements and specifications
• Experience working across multiple disciplines and organizations to resolve complex issues
• Experience with standards setting organizations in the field of Ethernet and optical networking
• Experience with network operating systems, SAI or SONiC
