Job Description - Senior Industrial Designer

WORRELL is an award winning US-based consulting firm specializing in medical and healthcare design since 1976.

Our Shanghai office is currently seeking a passionate and talented Senior Industrial Designer to join our creative team. The ideal candidate should have 5+ years of relevant working experience and a strong portfolio with a clear emphasis on design thinking, quality sketching, concept visualization, 3D modeling and rendering. Previous working experience in an international team environment is strongly preferred.

As Senior Industrial Designer, you will collaborate with our international research and design teams to create professional design solutions for our multinational medical and healthcare clients. You will actively participate and potentially lead all stages of concept development including, field research and needs assessment, co-creation and visualization as well as 3D modeling and prototyping. You will also act as a mentor for Junior Designers by providing guidance for skill development.

Project Lead Experience:

You have relevant client-facing experience with understanding various stakeholder needs and are able to define the relevant scope of work to achieve them. You understand how to share work with your team accordingly to meet time and budget requirements.

Insights to Solutions:

You are able to translate firsthand field insights & user needs into multiple meaningful design concept directions.

User-Centric Approach:

You have a strong interest in user-centric design methodology and can demonstrate it through past projects.

Design Application:

As a solution-focused designer, you are able to apply design thinking not only to products, but also business models, environments, work flow, user experiences, services, etc…

Technical Aptitude:

You demonstrate a solid understanding of material and process applications as they relate to manufacturing and costs. You are able to work effectively with an engineering team to maintain the key design intent while negotiating manufacturing and cost trade offs.

Proportion & Aesthetics:

You have strong sense of proportion and aesthetics that is appropriate for product/graphics designed for professional applications in international markets.

Attention to Detail:

You are able to produce high quality details that support the “big idea” or main concept.

Personality:

You are self-motivated with a strong work ethic and positive attitude. You enjoy team collaboration, mentoring and teaching others.

Required Skills:

? Fluency in Mandarin & English.

? Excellent rapid visualization (sketch or other fast medium)

? Strong 3D CAD ability (Solidworks is required, Pro-E is a plus)

? Photorealistic Rendering (Keyshot or other)

? Advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (AI & PS)

? Strong written & verbal communication

? Excellent time management

Other Requirements:

? Bachelors, Masters or equivalent Industrial Design degree (4-5 years).

? 5+ years of relevant professional working experience

? Experience designing handheld devices or hand tools

? 10-20% travel required

? Position is based in Shanghai, China
