We are currently looking for a Senior Java Engineer to join our global Science IT Software Engineering Team. This role requires someone that codes daily, is ambitious, and has a passion for development. We’ll rely on you to bring your technical acumen to help the team continue to deliver world class solutions for both our employees and our external constituents such as patients and doctors. Among your responsibilities is to plan, architect, design, document and implement software solutions that enable AstraZeneca to discover and develop new innovative medicines.

Taking over this role will make you a part of our global development team which is migrating to as close as we can to a true DevOps operating model. You will receive requirements that you are encouraged to understand, plan, develop, and thoroughly test before considering the work completed. Deployments and infrastructure are handled by our team and you will need to be capable of doing deployments and preparing your work for the infrastructure requirements. As Software Engineer you are encouraged to thoroughly understand the Software Development Lifecycle and standard methodologies that should allow you to help your fellow teammates as well as to be leading part of Agile Sprint including Backlog valuation, Sprint Planning and Retrospective leading. You will act as a mentor for junior developer – and some experience here is nice to see.

We are building a team that is accountable and responsible for the work they deliver. This means that you will be encouraged to support your work after it has been released to our customers. We build it, we own it.

Senior Software Engineer is encouraged to have knowledge in developing, managing data, integrating with other systems, and learning new technology that enables the solution. It is not required that you have skills in all of the following technologies, but you may have to learn depending on the work you are given:

• Spring Boot / Java
• Angular / TypeScript / jQuery / JavaScript
• Responsive Web / HTML5 / Twitter Bootstrap 4
• PostgreSQL
• Jira / Confluence / Git
• MongoDB / Couchbase / Other NoSQL technologies

Extra points if you have experience with:

• AWS Technologies including EC2, ECS, EKS, S3, Route53, ELB, API Gateway, and others
• scss / css3
• Activiti / Camunda / Flowable / NodeRED
• OAuth2
• SnapLogic / Mule
• statistical orientated technologies (R language)

Education Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Math, Computer Science, Information Science, or equivalent degree is preferred but not required. We will hire self-taught engineers without a formal education given that you demonstrate evidence of rich history of software engineering.

Experience Requirements:

• Long history of enjoying problem solving and building things
• Hands on software development experience
• Previous leadership responsibilities on software delivery projects
• Demonstrated experience with Agile Scrum development method
