Lectureship in English Language

The School of Humanities and Social Science (Ref.AC 2019/002/01)

The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (“University”) is established in accordance with the Regulations of the People’s Republic of China on Chinese-foreign Cooperation in Running Schools upon approval of the Ministry of Education. It inherits the educational philosophy and academic systems of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. It is intended to develop into a world-class research university with strong Chinese cultural influence. It is committed to nurturing high-level talents with global perspective, Chinese tradition, and social responsibility.

At present, the University has programmers in science, engineering, economic management, and humanities and social science, etc. Its long-term goal is to have 11,000 domestic and international students, 7,500 of whom will be undergraduate students and 3,500 Masters or PhD students.

The University has an international learning environment, a bilingual teaching pedagogy with English being the primary medium of instruction, a collegiate system, general education curriculum, multidisciplinary programmes, and a student-centered educational philosophy.

The School of Humanities and Social Science (HSS) HSS has two missions. First, HSS provides university core curriculum for all students, including general education, English language competency, Chinese cultural heritage and language competency, physical education, basic competency in information technology (IT) applications.

Beyond the university core curriculum, HSS intends to develop to become a school of excellence in humanities and social sciences, and to provide high-quality programmes in multiple areas at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, including, but not limited to, translation & interpreting studies, simultaneous interpreting, applied psychology, international affairs & international relations (global studies), internet and new media, advanced English communication, urban studies, educational studies, sociological studies. The University recruits first-class faculty members from around the world, and we welcome high caliber faculty of diverse background from around the world to join us and establish a top-tier School of Humanities and Social Science in China.

Post Specification

Applicant should have at least a Master's Degree in English Language/Applied Linguistics or a related field and at least 3 years of experience in teaching English to students at the tertiary level. Applicant with proven record of any of the following are highly encouraged to apply:

  • developing and/or teaching English courses for science and engineering students;
  • developing and/or teaching English courses for business and management students;
  • developing and/or teaching language courses (French, German, Spanish, or any other major language) to second language learners.

The appointee will be responsible for (a) teaching University Core English courses; (b) teaching free-elective courses; and (c) assisting in curriculum development and administrative assignments.

The appointee is expected to commence work in the academic year 2019-20.

Appointments will be made under the establishment of CUHK(SZ) and statutory benefits will be provided according to the prevailing labour laws applicable in the PRC.
