YOUR POSITION WITH TNC

The Nature Conservancy (TNC) has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Manager, AP Council & Strategic Trips to design, create, implement and provide expert advice/direction on offline experiences, including trips to the Asia Pacific (AP) region and high-profile events for current and prospective donors to The Nature Conservancy’s Asia Pacific program.

The Senior Manager, AP Council & Strategic Trips (Senior Manager) is responsible for the day-to-day operations of Asia Pacific Council (AP Council) and the Asia Pacific Leadership Council (AP Leadership Council) to include planning all meetings, managing meeting agendas and preparation, working with committees to advance projects, and managing staff follow up and execution of plans. This position is based in Hong Kong and will report to the Hong Kong Director of Development for the Asia Pacific Region.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION

The Senior Manager is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive offline engagement program to cultivate, attract and/or engage current and future donors to The Nature Conservancy. This person will work with the Asia Pacific regional fundraising and marketing teams to develop and implement donor and prospect trips to the region. The goal of the trips will be to create an in-region experience that facilitates subsequent requests for support. The Senior Manager will work collaboratively with the AP marketing and philanthropy teams, state chapter fundraising teams, regional in-country programs, science, and the World Office to create best-in-class donor and prospect trips and events.

The Senior Manager is responsible for AP Council and AP Leadership Council related communications internally and externally and may also serve as an advisor for developing connections, identifying support and expanding volunteer leadership in specific core countries throughout the region, as well as liaising with other trustee groups throughout the organization to raise visibility of the Councils. S/he will support the Asia Pacific Council Chair, Asia Pacific Leadership Council Chair and TNC leadership in mapping out the vision and strategy for the Councils and will develop and maintain effective relationships with colleagues in other departments at the global, regional and business unit levels to optimize development and outcomes of the AP Council and AP Leadership Council.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE

Management of AP Council and AP Leadership Council

  • Support strategy sessions with the Asia Pacific Council Chair, Asia Pacific Leadership Council Chair and TNC staff to keep the Councils’ charters and goals relevant and updated.
  • Develop and maintain a core Asia Pacific TNC committee for weekly work updates.
  • Manage and implement all Council events to include in-person meetings, calls, field visits, and conferences.
  • Monitor and support Council committees, preparing periodic updates for the Regional Managing Director (RMD).
  • Manage the annual work plan for the global/ regional engagement strategies for each Council member with clear milestones and metrics. Coordinate across regional/global departments to implement the work plan.
  • Support individual work plans for all Council members.
  • Work with Council members and their staff to facilitate interaction with the RMD and other TNC staff.
  • Develop and deliver (directly or indirectly) all Council communications and materials, overseeing reporting on results as set out in work plans and by specific project proposals to ensure accountability.
  • Manage information flow between TNC and members of AP Council and AP Leadership Council.
  • Coordinate with regional philanthropy, marketing communications and conservation leads to implement Council strategies and related reporting.
  • Work closely with Hong Kong, Asia Pacific and US philanthropy teams to develop solicitation strategies for members of AP Council, AP Leadership Council and their referrals.
  • Review initiatives, events, communications and materials with the AP Council Chair, AP Leadership Council Chair and RMD.
 

Strategic Events & Donor Engagement

  • Collaborate with relevant Asia Pacific teams to create trip itineraries, communicate logistics, coordinate the development of trip materials and briefings, and assess venues. Trips include 5- 6 “pre-planned trips” and up to 3 “opportunistic" trips per year.
  • Plan, organize, and manage events from start to finish according to requirements, target audience and objectives. No more than 2 events/year.
  • Coordinate logistics (arranging air fares, hotel reservations, etc.)
  • Managing budget and contracts to manage costs and adhere to time constraints.
  • Ensure that appropriate trip/event materials are created (pre-reading, bios, briefings).
  • Source and manage consultants and vendors.
  • Lead promotional activities for events.
  • Ensure event is completed smoothly and step up to resolve any problems that might occur.
  • Communicate trip “essentials” (upcoming deadlines, payment schedules, registrations, etc.)
  • Coordinate trip/event follow up to ensure that 1) participant feedback is captured, 2) participant feedback is communicated to relevant stakeholders across the Conservancy, 3) specific next steps are communicated to relevant stakeholders.
  • Analyze the event’s success and prepare reports and lessons learned.
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum 8 years’ related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience developing and implementing trips and/or events.
  • Demonstrated ability to work across complex organizations.
  • Experience managing multiple projects with multiple timelines.
  • Experience managing consultants and negotiating agreements.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Leadership ability, discretion and excellent judgment.
  • Willingness to work across time zones as needed.

  • Strong negotiation and problem solving ability.
  • International experience.
