In December 2020 Airbnb launched Airbnb.org, a non-profit organization that builds on a long history of connecting people in times of crisis to safe, comfortable places to stay. This work began at Airbnb in 2012, when a Host named Shell reached out wanting to offer her home for free to those impacted by Hurricane Sandy in New York City. Since then, Airbnb—and now Airbnb.org—has partnered with Hosts, nonprofit organizations, emergency management agencies and governments to provide stays to people around the world in times of crisis. Today, building upon 8 years of learnings and experience providing temporary housing to 75,000 refugees, asylum seekers and people displaced by disaster or other crises across 104 countries, Airbnb.org has announced a series of commitments to diversity, equity and inclusion including centering marginalized communities in its work and in team composition.

The Senior Manager, Finance, Airbnb.org role will report to the Head of Airbnb.org. This role will be responsible for overseeing financial management, budgeting, accounting, cash management/banking, and the reporting processes required for the Airbnb.org 501c3 entity.  They will also oversee strategic planning, business analytics, and the operating system of the Airbnb.org team. 

This leader will partner with Finance professionals from  Airbnb, Inc. on a dotted line basis, and external vendors focused on nonprofit financial operations and auditing. The ideal candidate will have experience with managing finance in both nonprofit and corporate contexts, including most of the responsibilities described here.   

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the financial foundation of Airbnb the .org nonprofit
    • Operationalize processes, procedures and controls to support key nonprofit activities (e.g. fundraising, fund management, grant-making)
    • Run planning and budgeting processes (independent of Airbnb Inc.)
    • Oversee cash and transaction management, accounting, and tax reporting (supported by 3rd party)
    • Oversee business systems strategy and implementation (GL, Salesforce Nonprofit suite, etc.). 
    • Drive financial and regulatory reporting
    • Oversee audit preparation and execution
  • Coordinate with the Airbnb Inc. FP&A team on financial planning and budgeting, reporting, analysis and operational support for Airbnb.org. 
  • Support the business operating system of Airbnb.org.
    • Collaborate with FP&A and business partners on the annual and quarterly planning process and operating processes such as business reviews and roadmap reviews. 
    • Approve and communicate performance metrics/KPIs and value frameworks, explaining the business reasons for variance from the forecast to business leaders. 
    • Review forecasts by segment for key inputs to financial performance. Ensure transparency with business leads. Analyze variance from budgets and forecast, Product team goal setting, adjustment, pacing, attribution
  • Sit on Airbnb.org Leadership team, representing Finance, and making decisions jointly about Airbnb.org’s team-wide strategy, execution, and organization. 
  • Manage the preparation and presentation of financial and business strategy content for Airbnb.org’s Board of Directors.

Required Qualifications:

  • 12+ years of experience managing Finance and strategic planning in both corporate and nonprofit environments
  • Exceptional ability to effectively collaborate with and influence business partners 
  • Proactive and creative problem solver with strong intellectual horsepower
  • Strong Financial Analysis and Excel modeling skills. Prior experience empowering teams will be a strong plus  
  • Strong leadership and communication skills - written and verbal - required
  • Strong analytical and financial skills

The starting base pay for this role is between $190,000 and $245,000. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: education, experience, and skills. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.
