The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology is a leading research university in Asia committed to excellence in education and research. The Information Systems Office is responsible for the development, support, and operation of the administrative systems serving the University, covering such areas as finance, human resources, procurement, facilities and estates management, admissions, student registration/records, research, data warehouse and analytics, and a wide spectrum of student services using the latest technologies under the smart campus initiative. A major part of these systems/services is served by the Oracle PeopleSoft ERP package, complemented by a suite of off-the-shelf, and in-house developed systems.

The Office is seeking high caliber candidates to support the systems/services that are in place, as well as to develop/implement new system modules/functions that are essential for the operation of the University.

The appointees will play a leadership role in the off-the-shelf packaged and/or application development/support projects of the Office.

Job duties:

• Carry out project governance and/or management of the information system projects
• Carry out business process re-engineering exercises and recommend areas of improvement
• Lead and supervise a team of internal staff in their day-to-day activities
• Assist to identify and evaluate the latest technology and tools to improve the user experience of the information systems
• Manage the outside contractors
• Assist to develop the long-term information systems strategy of the University

Applicants should have sound business knowledge in one or more of the above-mentioned administrative systems and their related business processes. They should possess proven hands-on experience in project governance, project management, system prototyping and design, business processes review and design, as well as excellent interpersonal and analytical skills. Technically, previous hands-on experience with web development projects in the Java platform, mobile and social media platforms, and/or experience with the tier-one ERP packages implementation such as Oracle PeopleSoft, Oracle eBusiness Suite, or SAP will be an  advantage.

Applicants should have a recognized degree in a related discipline, with at least 10 years’ relevant managerial experience in a sizable organization. Previous working experience in a sizable IT consulting practice is desirable. (Duration: 2 years, renewable)

Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided.  A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract.
