What you’ll do

The Patient Advocacy role is to develop and execute patient centric strategies in India to support key AstraZeneca and business unit priorities. The role also equips to deliver commercial objectives, engagement with cross-functional leaders and colleagues in managing patient advocacy and patient engagement opportunities. The role will strengthen or create patient advocates. The role aims to raise the unmet need and disease burden with appropriate stakeholders to manage budgets or voice/support for patient access programs. The role is non-promotional in nature to connect with patients.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Provide direction for cross functional engagement with targeted key stakeholders, including current and future patients, and serve as a key relationship manager, leading and/or guiding relationships with patient and professional advocacy organizations as appropriate

  • Develop, drive and manage India’s country advocacy relations plan to foster better understanding of AZ policy positions and issues by lawmakers and key opinion leaders across key areas of  therapeutic importance for AZ

  • Assist in developing policy focused advocacy engagement and strategies through development of collaborative platforms on policy issues specific to areas of mutual interest among AZ, patients and patient advocacy groups.

  • Making referrals to appropriate healthcare services, directing patient inquiries or complaints and facilitating satisfactory resolutions

  • Lead the conversation within and external to AZ to help achieve our goal of being known as the most patient-centric company.

  • Understanding and explaining complex state/national policies across NCDs, Rare Diseases etc & NHM funds, procurement and support for treatment modalities to pts

  • Serve as the primary point of contact and liaison to national trade organizations, Alliance Development Committees as well as diverse and inclusive advocacy organizations, such as patient organizations, rural organizations, provider organizations, faith-based, seniors, multicultural and more.

  • Participate on patient advocacy groups as advisory board and/or committee members.

Deliverables

  • Build a need gap analysis on patient advocacy ecosystem across key areas of  therapeutic importance for AZ (Oncology, rare diseases)

  • Build an AZ engagement platform with patient advocacy groups on a pilot basis in states like UP, Chhattisgarh to further the business objectives

  • Create a playbook which defines the role of patient advocacy for AZ to be rolled out across the country

  • Scientific aptitude on understanding disease and HCP-Pt need gaps

  • Understanding of India’s health/rare disease policies, healthcare ecosystem, patient communities at large and their ways of working

  • Network within govt. establishments including Health Ministry.

  • Ability & experience to connect with senior government officials

  • Good knowledge of complex healthcare policies and procedures.
