The job: Senior Manager, Practical Process Improvement Business System (Band 8)
The role will facilitate implementation of the Practical Process Improvement (PPI) Business System with the Materials & Minerals business unit within the Chemical Analysis Divisions, to; enable profitable growth, intensify the customer experience and increase employee engagement. The position collaborates with key stakeholders to lead projects and kaizen events by deploying structured problem solving to improve systems and eliminate waste.
What will you do?
- Diplomatically cultivate an action-biased culture of continuous improvement to improve KPIs, in the areas of customer, finance, people and quality for the Materials & Minerals Business Unit.
- Facilitate transformation efforts (Kaizen, VSM, 3P, Projects) to deliver Key Performance Indicator (KPI) and Profit & Loss (P&L) improvement results.
- Monitor progress of improvement efforts and develop plans to address shortcomings
- Measure and report on key performance indicators (leading and lagging) at site level; develop and implement effective corrective action plans in conjunction with Site and PPI managers to address any areas of concern
- Collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders to execute an operational excellence plan that supports site, business unit, and Thermo Fisher Scientific strategies
- Implement annual operational excellence roadmaps to drive continuous improvement
- Conduct PPI leadership and employee team training
- Provide ‘Sensei-type’ coaching to leadership, employees and representatives to develop their PPI/Lean expertise over time
- Identify ways to accelerate the culture change necessary to support the PPI business system
- Challenge organizational leaders as necessary to create an action-biased culture of continuous improvement and accountability to improve KPI’s, including growth, productivity, inventory, and customer allegiance.
- A Lean Practitioner with experience and a ‘hands-on’ track record of implementing successful TPS fundamentals including elements such as:
- Visual management/5S, value stream mapping, standard work, metric boards, stand-up meetings and project funnel coordination
- Lean Six Sigma Certification preferred.
- Experience managing a continuous improvement program across multisite BU or division
- Demonstrated ability to drive cross functional teams to solve problems and implement sustainable improvements within the organization.
- Commercial business orientation/financial acumen
- Strong influencing skills
- Strong facilitation and presentation skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience working with Microsoft office (Word and Excel)
- Able to apply, teach, and coach teams on the use of Lean Six Sigma concepts of Visual Management, SMED, 5S, root cause analysis, value stream mapping, FMEA, pareto charts, and histograms
- A holistic thinker who can look BU-wide to integrate and streamline systems for optimal benefit.
- Able to drive continuous improvement in both non-operational and operational areas, including connecting the cross-functional resources to remove waste along the extended value streams
- Passion for driving improvement and leading change
- Ability to travel c.60% of the time internationally
