Candidate Focus & Challenge

The key area of focus for this role is to build a world class agile Software Delivery capability for AstraZeneca.

The candidate will be accountable for (but not limited to) the following activities:

• Developing the overall project & service delivery approach for the software products / applications delivered by the AD/AM and Platform services capabilities.
• As a leader you will be expert at leading all functions related to ensuring projects are delivered to the highest quality of software products and large-scale technology services.
• Generate high-level quality goals, which align with AstraZeneca’s overall objectives and translating them into well-formulated tactical action plans for results.
• Coaching and mentoring the Scrum team members.
• Creating an environment that promotes collaboration within and across teams.
• Demonstrate deep and broad domain experience to promote credible, innovative solutions and proposals.

Our Ideal Candidate Will Demonstrate

•     An undeniable passion for agile project delivery, coupled with a strong sense of ownership to evolve and drive the project delivery agenda within the organisation

•     Forward thinking and that they can lead the project delivery and influence project delivery at a global level.

•     An ability to develop strategy and negotiate senior management approval.

•     Provide leadership and guidance in areas of agile project delivery.

Manage project budgets ensuring all projects are delivered on time and to budget.

•     Expert knowledge of software development, testing processes, and methodologies, and maintained by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies

•     Self-motivation and an ability to contribute to rapidly evolving programs.

•     Superior technical and interpersonal problem-solving skills

•     A strong academic record (min. Bachelor degree) with substantive experience in hands-on development and a track record of delivering the projects successfully, driving team engagement and delivering on commitments

•     Provide excellent written and verbal communication skills at all levels, but particularly ability to present complex data and critical issues effectively to peers, large groups, customers and executives with clarity.

•     Experience with and knowledge of tools that can help make software delivery and testing more effective. Preference for experience with the following frameworks and tools: Technical Skills: Java / Object Oriented Design / UI development; Jira, Confluence; Code coverage and analysis: Clover, SonarCube (code coverage and analysis); Zephyr, Selenium, Cucumber, jMeter, ReadyAPI..

•     Perform work without significant direction. Translating strategic initiatives into objectives and executable tasks.

•     Frequent contact with personnel and outside customer representatives at various management levels concerning operations or scheduling or specific phases of projects or contracts. Conducts briefings and participates in technical meetings for internal and external functions and customers.

•     Help transform Software Engineering solution delivery process as it evolves into a modern test-driven, continuously integrated, set of micro-services.

•     Work closely with software, test and platform engineers to help them build an agile mindset into their increasingly sophisticated products and services

Candidate Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Leadership Capabilities:

Able to demonstrate examples to evidence the Leadership Capabilities: Acting Decisively, Driving Accountability, Working Collaboratively, Develops People and experience in building support and credibility within all levels of an organization.

Excellent written and verbal skills with fluent English (written and verbal)

Technical capabilities:

Expert in Agile Project Delivery.

Expert in developing service based solutions.

Education, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Essential

• Technical or Business Degree
• Technical Authority in Agile Application Development
• Agile certifications in Scrum, SAFe, etc.
• Proven skills and experience managing and controlling project budgets
• Excellent communication and relationship management skills
• Experience managing and leading global project teams
• Evidence of shaping innovative solutions that have a major impact within the business area and organisation
• Excellent business acumen with sensitivity to environment
• Experience working in a global organization where stakeholders and project team members are geographically dispersed.

Desirable

• Masters degree
• Project / Programme Management
