Senior Manager, R&D Operations

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will have strong business operations capabilities, particularly with R&D drug development knowledge. As a leader, the candidate will guide a team committed to exceeding productivity and operational goals on a global basis. The Senior Manager will assist in advancing our business operations, supplier, contracting and expense management capabilities to support our R&D staff.
- Developing strong collaborative relationships with internal partners to support and proactively respond to business needs.
- Advocating for internal partners by engaging with global corporate functions to remove barriers and develop solutions to evolving business needs.
- Developing and advancing end to end process and solutions (with a global to local lens) to ensure smooth execution of contracted deliverables with our suppliers.
- Developing and maintaining predictive systems to enable effective decision making and insights
- Developing operational strategies to achieve functional goals, and maintaining oversight of day-to-day execution
- Collaborate with corporate partners (Finance, Global Strategic Sourcing, External Workforce, etc.) and applicable internal networks (Supplier, Budget, etc.) to achieve our R&D objectives.
- Ensuring adherence to corporate procurement guidelines and operationalize with an appropriate support model for the end-to-end source to pay and contracting processes.
- Demonstrates strong understanding of regulatory and legal issues pertinent to drug development

Basic Qualifications
- Doctorate degree and 2 years of biotech/pharma-related business operations/supplier management experience OR
- Master’s degree and 6 years of biotech/pharma-related business operations/supplier management experience OR
- Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of biotech/pharma-related business operations/supplier management experience OR
- Associate’s degree and 10 years of biotech/pharma-related business operations/supplier management experience OR
- High school diploma / GED and 12 years of biotech/pharma-related business operations/supplier management experience
- 2 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in biology, life sciences, health, medical or clinical sciences along with additional education in law, finance, or business.
- Strong background in mid- and late-stage drug development that includes familiarity with multiple therapeutic areas, regulatory operations, observational studies, biostatistics, and medical operations.
- Experienced “integrator” role across multiple organizations, teams, and processes with proven ability to advance strategic imperatives.
- Knowledgeable of key regulations, guidance, privacy, and laws relevant to areas in which Amgen operates in as it relates to drug development.
- Familiarity with procurement compliance requirements (Sunshine Act, SOX, HCC)
- Familiarity with multiple sourcing models (e.g., Fee-for-service, dedicated resource, functional service provider).
- Contracting, Finance and budget management experience including budget development, negotiations, cost analysis and reporting.
- People manager (direct or indirect) with proven ability to translate strategies into actionable goals and cultivate a team sense of purpose.
- Proven experience as a change agent and managing through organizational transformation.
- Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, critical thinking and verbal/written communication skills.
- Proven ability to develop collaborative internal and external relationships and navigating matrixed organizations.
