Job Description
Eaton is currently seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to join our team. This position is based out of our Beaver, PA location. Relocation assistance will be provided. Position Overview: The Senior Manufacturing Engineer will plan, direct and execute manufacturing engineering projects related to manufacturing methods, processes, facilities, systems, and equipment using comprehensive knowledge of existing capabilities and new technologies. You will be responsible for leading manufacturing process improvements, project planning, and execution of RIEs (Rapid Improvement Events) in your assigned production areas. More specifically, this role will include process conceptualization, feasibility assessments, and process validation. You will manage strategic capital projects, including automation, manage focused teams, run meetings, execute major equipment purchases, replicate existing equipment, and develop training and operational documentation. This position will also lead capacity and capital equipment analysis, vendor selection, and manufacturing development. The role has a heavy focus on reducing waste, cost & inefficiencies while creating standards, increasing value, and employee engagement. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting plant leadership in achieving business and financial goals by developing and maintaining robust manufacturing processes and leading the lean transformation in your assigned production areas. Additional responsibilities include executing the organization’s strategic plan with consistently established industry standards and customer requirements, as well as design and implementation of production requirements, supporting production teams with process improvements & troubleshooting, working with product design on new product tooling & processes, factory layout, and continuous improvement activities (Kaizen events, use of Six Sigma tools, 5S, etc.). Included in this position, you will focus on driving operational excellence through process improvements and factory automation. In this role, you provide day-to-day support to the manufacturing team as well as to longer-term strategic planning and project management. You will be called upon to research and identify process and automation improvements, implement Industry 4.0 initiatives and prioritize department opportunities. Leads cost-out events and promotes a culture of continuous improvement. Applies lean manufacturing techniques as means to eliminate waste and deliver products to customers' expectations. Develops and maintains robust, cost-efficient manufacturing processes and product structures consistent with lean manufacturing practices, including the implementation of automation and robotic technologies. Integrate equipment and systems by using Industry 4.0 methodologies. Coordinate projects with people at all levels, departments, and facilities within the organization. Independently designs and develops projects to support overall company objectives. Interfaces with manufacturing personnel to improve existing processes. Provide technical expertise to support daily operations to achieve significant improvement in production-related objectives. Investigate and resolve safety-related projects. Perform ergonomic assessments and participate in incident investigations. Lead efforts to proactively identify process improvement including factory automation improvements Drive factory automation through the development of design specifications, programs, simulations, and test processes. Improve reliability and reduce maintenance costs; applies technical knowledge to innovate, design, and develop equipment, fixturing, procedures, processes, tooling, and/or automation Determines machine production rates and manning requirements using ELSS tools and CI strategies. Lead formulation of manufacturing documentation, standard work sheets, control plans, and production area layouts. Write and submit appropriation requests approval (CAR) for new and replacement equipment, track and report on project spending. Review and evaluate product designs and recommend changes to facilitate manufacturability and assembly process. Conceptualize, develop, and approve designs of special tools, assembly lines, machines, and gauges for manufacturing processes. Coordinate and perform machine/assembly process runoffs to measure process with capability analysis using SPC at vendor’s and Eaton’s facility and supervise in-house installations. Lead transition from project to operations through training and informing operators, quality control technicians, front-line leaders, and management on improved process techniques and new manufacturing concepts. Meet with team members and present current equipment, process development, and appropriation spending progress on projects at regular design review committee meetings. Ensures ALL requirements are met in accordance with Environmental Health and Safety System in relation to the overall production process, machine specifications, and operator ergonomics. Create and improve process plans for new and existing products Conduct time studies to establish or verify standards Design and develop tooling to support the assembly and testing of the product. Qualifications Required (Basic) Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Industrial, Electrical, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering At least three (3) years of Manufacturing Engineering experience in an assembly or machining production environment Must be able to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship, now and in the future. Preferred Qualifications: 3 to 7 years of manufacturing experience in an assembly or machining/manufacturing production environment, including Automation & Robotics. Understanding and use of lean tools Knowledge and experience in automation and robotics, including programming. Experience in PLC logic and programming with PLCs, C(+) programming, and configuration of software packages Experience implementing machine & process automation Experience with pneumatic and mechanical equipment Position Criteria: Ability to perform work with little or no direct supervision Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and facilitation skills. Experience with Industry 4.0 technologies Identify and execute cost-out initiatives through productivity improvements Utilize problem-solving tools (8D, 5 Why’s, DMAIC) to identify root causes and implement corrective and preventive actions. Budgetary/cost analysis experience Leadership experience Familiarity with problem-solving methodologies, e.g., 8D, 5 Why, and A3. Leads Eaton's continuous improvement initiatives such as Rapid Improvement Events, Standard Work Events, Value Stream Mapping, and 5S+. Ability to lead change in a team environment.
