Bill's product was a kind of verification device using phone lines—a verification phone.

Job Title: Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Description

JOB SCOPE:

• Designs and analyzes mechanical systems, sub-systems, components, equipment and packaging at an advanced level.
• Conducts effective feasibility studies and testing on new and modified designs at the system and sub-system/component level leading to design optimizations.
• Conducts advanced detailed design, analysis, testing and prototype fabrication using solid modelling CAD tools.
• Develops, or directs development of detailed 2-D engineering drawings using advanced GD&T standards.
• Develops or directs internal and external support personnel in the preparation of detailed design, design testing and prototype fabrication.
• Provides detailed design analysis and information to management as on a regular basis.
• Organizes and conducts effective design reviews with other peer functional teams.
• Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.
• Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
• Networks with key contacts outside own area of expertise.
• Determines methods and procedures on new assignments and may coordinate activities of other personnel (Team Lead).
• Very little direction needed.
• Operates independently on most tasks.
• Frequently interfaces with other functional teams.
• Provides leadership within their executive leader’s team, and is frequently consulted by director-level leaders.

KNOWLEDGE:

• Wide-range experience, uses professional concepts and company objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways.

EXPERIENCE:

• Typically requires extensive years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree or a Master’s degree; or equivalent experience.
• Requires an extensive years of related engineering experience in NB/Feature/smart/PAD phone experience.

SKILLS:

• Can be relied on to deliver complete design solutions and products on time and to requirements.
• In-depth understanding of the business and regularly contributes to determining technology direction that results in measurable business improvements.
• Ability to generate and correctly estimate product mechanical design schedules, and delivers on time without quality issues.
• Works well within all cross-functional teams, and contributes effectively to the success of all teams within their vice president’s organization.
• Exhibits solid leadership skills and can effectively mentor and lead other team members.
• Advanced solid modelling capability using 3D CAD tools.
• Advanced 2-D Drafting capability using GD&T standards.
• Familiarity and/or skills with FEA analysis tools.
• Familiarity and skills with CP/CPK and RSS/MRSS.
• Advanced knowledge and experience with mechanical part fabrication technologies, including injection molding, sheet metal, castings, CNC machining, rapid prototype technologies.
• Demonstrates ability to generate novel design solutions resulting in useful company intellectual property.
• General knowledge of office procedures and good PC, word processing, and typing skills.
• Fluent English read/write/listening/speaking
