Job Summary

Besides perform normal nurse duties, the senior nurse assumes the role and duties of Team Leader in the management, coordination and evaluation of care of patients from arrival in Operating Theater to transfer patient out of OT. The senior nurse works in close collaboration with all member of the multi-disciplinary team, to provide optimal care and service, to meet patient needs and expectations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Guides, leads and supervises junior nurses in clinical decision making, performance, care delivery and patient education. Orientates, teachers and develops new team members. Serves as their resource person and preceptor. Provides input to Head Nurse on team member`s professional and clinical performance.
• Coordinates care activities for assigned patients using appropriate clinical pathways or care plans; performs standard procedures as well as specialized procedures which have been authorized by the Clinic Manager that meet the treatment, physical and emotional needs of patients; assists doctors and nurses during treatment and care of patients; monitors and evaluates nursing/treatment interventions, patient responses, progress and outcomes basis to assure best patient outcomes and experiences; identifies problems and takes timely actions to resolve them effectively.
• Records accurate and concise statements of observations and care rendered to patients. Maintains effective communication and interpersonal relations with patients/families.
• Performance charge nurse responsibilities which cover staff assignments, supervision of staff conduct, coordination of patient care activities.
• Maintains safe and clean work environment, furnishings and equipment for patients.
• Participates in any and all activities related to the smooth running of the clinic/center/unit.
• Performs any other duties as assigned by the Head Nurse/Clinic Manager.
• Co-ordinates all patient-related activities, conducts discharge planning and patient teaching.
• Maintaining contact with patients during the immediate post-discharge period in accordance to the clinic discharge planning policy. Working with Doctors to initiate and follow up patient progress.
• Works closely with receptionist team to ensure a smooth patient flow, and looks at ways to reduce waiting times and increase work efficiency.
• Sterilize and clean equipment as needed. Document in the record book.

Qualifications

• Education and/or professional qualifications (minimum requirements)
• College/Bachelor`s degree in Nursing or graduate of a professional School of Nursing.
• Minimum 5 years direct experience in OT in a hospital (Grand A level 2 or above)
• Current nursing registration with the Ministry of Health, Shanghai.
• Good English skills, both verbal and written Conversant English.
