Senior Packaging Engineer


The Packaging Engineering department is responsible for the design, development, qualification and implementation of packaging components and packaging configurations. The Packaging Engineers work on new product introductions and life cycle management. The department aligns to our corporate office in the United States and works closely together with a wide variety of onsite departments, such as process development, manufacturing, quality, supply chain and warehousing.

What makes this role interesting, is the fact that you will utilize physics, engineering and chemistry principles coupled with advanced and diverse materials science understanding. Furthermore, you’ll be responsible for mentoring and developing junior engineers and temporary personnel!

Key-responsibilities:

  • Management of entry level engineers and contingent workers;
  • Evaluation, recommendation and selection of new packaging materials for both large and small molecules product;
  • Assessing complex problems relating to materials, recommending and implementing solutions;
  • Write test protocols, perform technical evaluations and submitting technical assessment reports to justify the use of selected materials;
  • Technology transfer from clinical to commercial or from site to site for packaging components and equipment processes;
  • Prioritize to ensure all projects are managed within expected due dates;
  • Lead and present new packaging ideas, concepts and design ideas to the Product Development team;
  • Participants in Pre-Approval Inspections (PAI) and interact with regulatory bodies (e.g., FDA, EMEA, etc.) as needed;
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (i.e. Research, QA/QC, Supply Chain, Maintenance, Manufacturing, Regulatory, etc.).

What qualifications are we looking for?

  • Bachelor or Master degree in the field of engineering, material science or industrial design;
  • At least 5 years of experience directly related to packaging materials;
  • Proven track record in the pharmaceutical industry;
  • Experience or the ambition to lead teams and develop team members;
  • Independent thinker with demonstrated skills working in teams or leading project teams;
  • Strong Interpersonal and communication skills.

A strong knowledge of common materials used in pharmaceutical packaging is required. Are you familiar with the structural components and chemical properties of glass, polymers, adhesives, inks, varnishes and paper? Then this might be a suitable job opportunity for you!
