BSI is recruiting an experienced policy manager to develop, support and lead on various policy areas.

About the team:

BSI’s Standards Policy team is responsible for policy and engagement to support BSI's role as the UK's national standards body.  It manages the integral policy inputs with the European and International standards bodies including ISO and IEC, builds relations with other standards developers around the world and is responsible for the relationship with key stakeholders in the UK, including UK Government.

About the role:

As the global footprint of BSI, as the UK’s National Standards Body, continues to grow, the importance of BSI’s international policy activities increases.  BSI plays a key influential role in the international and European standards bodies ISO, IEC, CEN and CENELEC, representing the views of its stakeholders in the UK.

Through engaging with and working collaboratively with other national members, BSI has taken a lead role in defining the future strategy of these organizations.  To meet the evolving needs of the UK, it is essential that the important role that BSI plays is further strengthened in the future.   The Senior Policy Manager will play a key role in delivering this objective.

Purpose of Position

To lead the development of BSI policies in a number of areas as related to our International and European activity. This could be policy development focused on the technical area, electrotechnical environment, strategic areas or commercial policy, amongst others. 

To work with other Managers to promote, support and lead initiatives internally and in the International and European fora which meet the strategic goals of BSI. The role will also support the Director of Standards, the Director of Standards Policy and the Head of External Policy in their senior, governance roles at the International and European Standards Organizations.     

To make an effective contribution to the influence and profile of the UK and BSI, and advance the interests of the UK and BSI internationally.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

  • Identify, develop and lead the development of the strategic direction of BSI’s policies towards key international standards bodies, with the focus areas to be determined based on the candidate skills and experience.
  • To be the internal expert on these policy ares, develop briefs in support of the above for Senior management of BSI and ensure that a coherent and consistent line is taken to strengthen the influence of BSI and the UK
  • To influence key governance boards of the International and European standards bodies
  • To lead, manage and drive the internal consultation on all aspects of these policy areas
  • To engage, as relevant, UK stakeholders on policy issues
  • To represent BSI at meetings where necessary
  • Develop and foster relations with other standards developing organizations including national standards bodies and SDOs
