In line with its long-term mission, AbbVie Immunology is expanding into the field of Immune Tolerance with three pillars focusing around Treg/TR1, tolerogenic DC and Tissue Resident Tissue Memory (TREM) cells. The director will lead and direct the scientific direction of this team in alignment with the head of Exploratory biology, the Disease discovery leads as well as other cross functional stakeholders. He/she will also be the external facing of this program in working together with key opinion leaders as well as The ideal candidate will report into the Executive Director Transformational and Translational Immunology Discovery (TTID) and work with TTID leadership, senior Immunology leadership and with the Genetics Research Center (GRC) to achieve these goals. This position requires passion, attention to detail, teamwork, prior hands-on experience in the field of immune tolerance and basic science training. Responsibilities: Primary responsibility is to drive scientific excellence in the field of Immune Tolerance in support of advancing AbbVie’s Immune Tolerance initiative to win in the space. Identify the right key opinion leaders to best inform the Tolerance program and establish collaborations with them and their academic institutions Identify the strategic fit of BD opportunities and ventures to accelerate the development of AbbVie’s Immunology Tolerance program Work collaboratively with Abbvie team members and in joint working groups with external partners to achieve goals of external collaborations, identify new portfolio projects and validate new targets to restore immune tolerance Present progression of AbbVie’s Immunology Tolerance program at internal meetings with senior leadership and external meetings. Qualifications PhD in an immunology with specific experience on the immune tolerance field (> 10 years). Solid understanding and extensive experience with autoimmune and inflammatory disorders including disease pathophysiology. A deep understanding of the current state of art of CRISPR technology, nanoparticle-based application of cellular targets and functional genomics. An understanding of informatics related to human sample analysis including genetics, transcriptomics, proteomics, epigenetics, metabolomics, flow cytometry and statistics. Experience with in vivo animal models, especially immunological models is a plus Excellent communication skills Ability to lead a team in a matrixed environment that includes contract specialists, project managers, business development colleagues and basic scientists Key AbbVie Competencies: Builds strong relationships with peers, cross functionally with partners outside of the team and with external partners to enable high performance.
