Job Description

This role reports directly to the China General Manager and has a dotted line into the Informa Tech Senior Product Director.

Role Purpose 

  • Shape and execute Informa Tech’s China value proposition and growth strategy.  

  • Grow Informa Tech’s well established research business, Omdia, in China 

  • Discover the audience growth strategy and the means to deliver it, be this via events, media, training or other businesses and channels. 

  • Determine the go-to-market strategy for Informa Tech’s B2B media. proposition in China and work with the team to obtain a media license  

  • Champion data-driven, customer-centric ways of working that embrace an iterative, test and learn approach to product development and management. 

  • Create and manage products and experiences that are valuable to customers (audience and clients) and profitable to the business.  

  • Lead the fledging cross-functional team responsible for designing, delivering and improving products across all lines of business (media, events, research, training) within China.  

  • Foster a customer-centric, data-driven, fast-paced, agile, iterative, test and learn culture.  

  • Provide the voice of the customer in the broad sense, audience, subscribers, delegates, clients and sponsors.  
     

Responsibilities 

  • Validate, understand and represent audience and client personas, including their needs and desired outcomes 

  • Awareness and monitoring of the market and competitor landscape  

  • Define the vision and strategy for each product, and align stakeholders around them 

  • Lead on engaging with customers (audience and clients), gathering insights and continually testing and validating requirements (qual & quant research, A/B testing, customer panels, etc)  

  • Create customer experience maps for personas and identify touch-points and opportunities for Informa Tech to add value 

  • Develop concepts, define user journeys, brief prototypes, form hypotheses and run experiments, and define KPIs to measure success  

  • Develop the business case for new products and improvements to existing products  

  • Prioritise product features, manage the backlog and own the product roadmap  

  • Define and contribute to Objectives and Key Results in collaboration with the China Market Leadership team  
     

Works closely with the following teams.. 

  • Market Leadership: to develop the commercial model, strategic forecasting and pricing  

  • Data and Analytics: to ensure decisions are data- driven and KPIs are monitored  

  • Marketing and Sales: to ensure tight alignment between the products that are developed and how they are sold and marketed  

  • Content, Marketing, Sales and Operations to ensure revenue, profitability and customer satisfaction goals are met  

  • Product Managers: to ensure shared platforms deliver a customer experience that meets the needs of the China market 

Qualifications

  • Proficient in business English  

  • Thorough understanding of digitally focused business models that are successful in China, specifically those that apply to research, media, event and training businesses 

  • Experience: 

    • growing research and market intelligence businesses 
    • growing an audience via primarily digital, but also non-digital, channels 
    • defining go-to-market strategies  
    • defining and executing an audience development strategy  
    • with media license regulatory requirements in China 
    • leading cross-functional teams 
    • agile and lean methodologies for product development 
    • tools and techniques for gathering audience and client insights (quant and qual research, methodologies etc.) 
  • Operational understanding of media, events, research and training is advantageous  

  • Understands the full range of capabilities within the business: Marketing, Sales, Content, and how to leverage their expertise.  

  • Commercial acumen, understands drivers of profitability
