We have a rare and exciting opportunity to join the R&D team within our Pet Nutrition business in Birstall, Leeds. As the Senior Product & Process Technologist you will be our expert in product and process design and performance as well as working Cross-functionally and with technical leadership to design and align on a plan for technical elements of all process/product development and implementation activities.

 

What are we looking for?

• Essential: Degree level qualification in a relevant technical or scientific discipline (Food Science/Technology, Biological, Chemical, Engineering sciences)
• Direct experience of food product design and food manufacturing processes
• Knowledge of food raw material/packaging substrate functionality is desirable
• Demonstrable experience in leading and managing projects preferably in an FMCG environment
• Excellent command of the English language

 

What would be your key responsibilities?

• Initiate and lead the delivery of a portfolio of product/process development & implementation projects that will lead to continuous improvement in product design and performance
• Initiate and lead projects designed to optimise business costs, while adhering to agreed standards of Quality and Food safety
• Own and manage site product, process recipes/specifications in line with design principles and standards
• Perform technical risk assessments on changes to raw materials, recipes, products, and processes and ensure that all risks are effectively managed
• Manage the implementation of new raw materials on site according to the Mars Material Quality Management (MQM) standard using relevant system tools (RADAR, Atlas, Veritas, and MRA Database).
• Defining minimum standards and critical success factors (CSFs) as part of the Handover 1 and 2 processes for all product/process implementation projects.
• Own product/process data collection and management, including Analytical Testing Programme (ATP) data, ensuring that that our products conform to standards, and that exceptions are effectively escalated and managed
• Act as a member of Product Related Incident Management Process (PRIMP)  & lead trouble-shooting activities in partnership with other functions to ensure the successful resolution of product/process issues
• Represent R&D in European and local Activity Task Groups (ATGs), providing risk assessment and technical inputs as required
• Lead and provide technical support for product/process implementation and cost optimization activities on other MPE sites, as determined by the Quality Management Team (QMT) network resource allocation process
• Actively participate in regional product/process communities to promote the effective sharing of knowledge and experience across the MPE network and central teams]
