Our location in Kansas City currently has an opportunity for a Senior Program Manager within our Toxicology business unit. The Senior Manager, Strategic Program Initiatives is responsible for leading functional team managers and project leaders to achieve major cross-functional and cross-divisional function milestones. Forecasts and monitors project and operational budgets related to their responsibility. Accountable for the preparation of tactical plans (time and resources) and coordination of related activities. The Senior Manager, Strategic Program Initiatives provides expertise and fosters continuous improvement in systems and methods through technology and process improvements. Assists the Workplace Senior Leader in achieving the strategic goals for function wide initiatives and responsible for critical projects. Individual takes on a variety of initiatives to align and improve day-to-day operations with the strategic direction of the company. This role sits in our Rapid Diagnostics Division, and Toxicology Business Unit.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Planning projects:
- Define the scope of the project; Create a detailed work plan which identifies and sequences the activities needed to successfully complete the project; Determine the resources (time, money, equipment, etc.) required to complete the project; Develop a schedule for project completion that effectively allocates the resources to the activities; Review the project schedule with senior management and all other staff that will be affected by the project activities; revise the schedule as required; Determine the objectives and measures upon which the project will be evaluated at its completion

- Staffing projects:
- In consultation with the appropriate manager, recruit, interview and select staff with appropriate skills for the project activities; Manage project staff according to established policies and practices of the organization; Contract qualified consultants to work on the project as appropriate

- Implementing projects:
- Execute the project according to the project plan; Develop forms and records to document project activities; Set up files to ensure that all project information is appropriately documented and secured; Monitor the progress of the project and make adjustments as necessary to ensure the successful completion of the project; Establish a communication schedule to update stakeholders including appropriate staff in the organization on the progress of the project; Review the quality of the work completed with the project team on a regular basis to ensure that it meets the project standards

- Controlling projects:
- Write reports on the project for Executives, management, and all concerned parties; Monitor and approve all budgeted project expenditures; Monitor and approve resource allocations

- Evaluating projects:
- Ensure project deliverables are on time, within budget and at the required level of quality; valuate the outcomes of the project as established during the planning phase

- Additionally:
- Where standard project management practices may not be warranted, be flexible and adapt industry knowledge to monitor, track and control efforts in ways that are practical
- Identify, implement and oversee process improvements, standards and procedures to project management to ensure the highest quality end product is delivered to customers
- Assist and mentor other project managers in following policies and procedures within the project management area
- Ensure processes within the project management area are followed in accordance to all regulations (i.e. SOX, FDA/Quality, general controls)
- Apply good judgment to align project actions against company strategy.
- Apply disciplined, fact-based judgment to process improvement recommendations.
- Consistently demonstrate structured thinking while conducting strategic assessments of process improvements for the business.
- Apply advanced knowledge and understanding of concepts, principles, and technical capabilities to manage a wide variety of projects.

- Responsible for participating in the strategic direction of the company and being an active participant in these areas as called upon.
- May oversee the completion of projects or assignments, including planning, assigning, monitoring and reviewing progress and accuracy of work, evaluating results, etc. Other duties or special projects may be assigned
- This position will also be required to work nights and weekends as needed to support project deployment schedules
- Minimal travel will be required for this position
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING
Required
- 7+ years of Program Management Leadership with a proven project management track record
- College degree BA/BS required or equivalent work experience
- Demonstrated ability to set and meet tight deadlines and function well under pressure
- Ability to work in a dynamic and fast paced environment
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, as well as organization and document skills
- How to determine backlog tracking, burndown metrics, velocity, task definition, vertical slicing, acceptance criteria, definition of ready, definition of done
- Deep understanding of Program and Portfolio Management is required
- Strong situational awareness, coupled with facilitation, team building, problem solving, and conflict resolution skills is required
- Working knowledge of Task Management/Issue Tracking software (such as JIRA, TFS, Rally), Windows operating systems, and Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Work, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, etc. is required
Preferred
- Familiarity with Drug Screening Industry and/or Occupational Health Screening and Collection Site / Clinic environment(s) preferred
- PMP preferred
