Senior Project Team Leader - Oncology Research

What you will do

Reporting into the head of Oncology Research, the Senior Project Team Leader (Senior PTL) will be accountable for helping to build and maintain strong scientific leadership of interdisciplinary teams focused on the discovery of new therapeutics and advancement of drug candidates to clinical development. The Senior PTL will also provide portfolio advancement insight and advice to senior leaders in R&D, and will be the functional business owner of the Pre Product Team Commercialization (PPTC) model. This is a highly visible position that will be involved in efficient advancement of the Oncology discovery portfolio and can be located at Thousand Oaks, CA or South San Francisco, CA.
Responsibilities for this position will include the following:
- Administration of the Oncology Therapeutic Area research portfolio, including portfolio tracking and adherence to internal governance processes. This is done in close coordination with the Research Operations group.
- Supporting and communicating the Oncology Therapeutic Area research portfolio prioritization. This requires a solid understanding of project priorities and the Oncology Therapeutic Area research strategy, working in close collaboration with the Research Oncology Therapeutic Area head.
- Helping Project Teams align their project and strategic objectives across the organization (i.e., with Clinical, Commercial, Manufacturing (Process Development), and Regulatory).
- Mentoring Project Team Leaders
- Assisting Research Operations and the Research Leadership Team with portfolio analysis and portfolio governance.

Basic Qualifications:
Doctorate degree and 4 years of research experience
OR
Master’s degree and 7 years of research experience
OR
Bachelor’s degree and 9 years of research experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong organizational and administrative skills
- A deep understanding of the drug discovery process and how project teams generate, assess, and identify clinical candidates
- A strong understanding of the Oncology therapeutic landscape
- The ability to work within a highly matrixed environment, interacting broadly with both research staff and senior leaders across the company
- The ability to not only support and ensure adherence to research processes and research governance, but also the ability streamline governance and promote efficiencies within the governance system.
- Excellent communication skills
