This is such an exciting time to be part of the team, as we prepare to transition to our new R&D Centre and Global Corporate HQ which is being constructed in the heart of Cambridge - a world leading scientific hub – at the Cambridge Biomedical Campus (CBC). It will bring together under one roof for the first time in the UK all our small molecule and biologics research capability.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior SHE (Safety, Health & Environments) Advisor to join the SHE team, providing general safety advice to support Cambridge Operations.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for managing customer needs and expectations across a broad range of services in order to provide a high quality, timely and cost-effective service
  • Provide advice and support on a day-to-day basis ensuring adequate local induction / instruction and training or act as a technical owner of a specific area with a deep understanding of processes and IT tools employed
  • Lead the planning, managing, and monitoring of major Safety, Health and Environment projects from concepts to implementation, or provide expert technical support to project managers.
  • Lead trouble shooting activities to resolve existing problems, make complicated judgements and anticipate future developments in AstraZeneca’s requirements
  • Employ prepared information to discuss, plan and help carry out improvement plans, priority setting, incident investigations, inspections, quality assurance and performance improvement recommendations
  • Keep own knowledge of best practices and new developments up to date
  • Develop contacts across a range of departments and/or external groups acting as SHE Team representative or other area of responsibility

Essential criteria

  • Knowledge, ability and experience to translate relevant Safety, Health and Environmental legal requirements and best practices in a pragmatic and proactive way
  • Experience of advising or managing Safety, Health and Environment in a large, complex scientific organisation or a passion for this area
  • Strong communication and influencing skills
  • Effective project management and people skills
  • Evidence of working effectively in a team and customer support role
  • Effective leadership skills with a passion for continual improvement
  • Chartered Safety Practitioner with the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health or working towards it

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience of working in a science/ research / pharmaceutical environment
  • Understanding of multiple aspects of Safety, Health and Environment
