BD Integrated Diagnostic Solutions (IDS) is seeking a Senior Scientist to work in Operations as a member of team to provide technical expertise, assist in New Product Development, customer complaint escalations, troubleshooting issues, sustaining initiatives in support of the Manufacturing Plants for the BD BACTEC and Sensi Disc product lines. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates proficiency in a broad range of practical lab techniques with proven skills in developing/adapting procedures to meet specific objectives and solve complex problems.
  • Ability to apply scientific principles to achieve project objectives, including the design and execution of experiments, and analysis and interpretation of data.
  • Collects, records, and interprets experimental results and present data to scientific peers and supervisor/manager either orally or in writing.
  • Understands and leverages published research and cross-functional/interdisciplinary collaboration to troubleshoot applications of BD's Diagnostic platforms.
  • Readily identifies problems, analyzes them for a solution and provide recommendations as to the appropriate course of action.
  • Provides Operations support in managing, executing and/or testing pilots, experiments, and/or qualification runs for New Product Development and investigations.
  • Prepares and performs investigational studies according to quality standards.
  • Writes and reviews Operations/Manufacturing documents in SAP. 
  • Performs tasks under minimum supervision.

Qualifications:

  • Performs tasks under minimum supervision
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Life Sciences or related discipline.  Microbiology education background preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of laboratory and manufacturing/quality experience in Life Science or related discipline.
  • Proficient in a broad range of laboratory techniques. Able to apply these techniques in a Manufacturing environment.
  • A history of self-motivation is required, together with a strong background in clinical laboratory science and/or engineering. Ability to troubleshoot problems and assist in investigations.  Ability to deal with ambiguity and make decisions without 100 percent of the data.
  • Proficient in handling infectious biological samples and knowledge of Current Good Manufacturing Practices and Operational Process Optimization is also highly desirable.
  • Knowledge and Application experience of Lean and Six Sigma tools highly beneficial.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary together with a strong desire to work in a team setting.
