Principal Scientist – PKDM, Modeling and Simulation

What you will do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will work directly within various Amgen project teams to apply quantitative solutions in the development of novel therapeutics through various activities including target/compound evaluation, design of preclinical studies, assessment of preclinical and clinical exposure relationships (target engagement, pharmacodynamic, and efficacy), execution of translational strategies, and contribute clinical study design.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement PKPD and mechanistic modeling activities in the preclinical space for drug discovery and development.
  • Prepare reports and team presentations, collaborate in multidisciplinary team settings
  • Requires critical and strategic thinking, excellent communication and teamwork skills and passion for using quantitative principles to guide the efficient development of drugs to help patients in need.
  • This position also provides the opportunity to pursue scientific inquiries into PK/PD relationship of small and large molecule biotherapeutics, authoring of scientific reports, scientific papers and presentations at scientific meetings.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree and 2 years of experience on applying quantitative PKPD principles to drug development or other relevant experience
  • Master’s degree and 5 years of experience on applying quantitative PKPD principles to drug development or other relevant experience or
  • Bachelor’s degree and 7 years of experience on applying quantitative PKPD principles to drug development or other relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctorate (Ph.D.) in chemical or biomedical engineering; applied mathematics; quantitative pharmaceutical sciences or a related field with 5+ years of experience in drug discovery and development
  • Proven track record applying systems modeling and simulation approaches in biological systems and/or drug development to support strategic decision making
  • Proficiency with systems modeling approaches such as differential equations, nonlinear mixed effects modeling, logic, stochastic, agent-based, or other advanced mechanistic modeling approaches is essential
  • Hands-on experience with relevant software or programming languages (e.g., Simbiology, MATLAB, R, or C) is essential.
  • Highly motivated, self-driven, can perform well both working independently and in team settings
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
