ADPE is responsible for the discovery and optimisation of biological candidate drugs to support all therapy area drug discovery pipelines and for the development of in-house biologics discovery platforms and novel drug modalities to support future drug discovery efforts.
We are looking for a talented Senior Scientist who has a good understanding and experience of high throughput recombinant protein engineering and production in relation to biologics discovery. The individual will be an experienced protein purification scientist and will be responsible for purifying protein therapeutics using high throughput automated systems. The individual will be proficient in designing, running and trouble-shooting protein purification processes.
What You’ll do
- Perform protein purifications at a high throughput scale from plate-based format to larger scale, particularly in relation to antibody and next-generation biologics development
- Conduct purifications with automated liquid chromatography systems (preparative & analytical) eg AKTA & HPLC with associated trouble shooting skills and protein characterisation
- Analyses data, making detailed observations and interpretation of results and understands the implications of the data in relation to the drug discovery process.
- Demonstrates strong, professional interpersonal communication by establishing good working relationships with team and department members and others within the company
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team and works closely with other scientists in relation to day to day working
- Understands and applies principles, theories and techniques used in cloning, expression & purification of protein biologics, to support drug and technology projects, with high level of attention to detail and providing solutions to a variety of process related problems
- Pro-actively contributes to development of new or improved high throughput protein production processes
- Prepares appropriate documentation such as electronic laboratory notebooks, contributions to patents and IND reports and conducts work according to current codes of practice (health and safety legislation, etc.) and all other relevant internal AstraZeneca standards and external regulations
- Presents clear and concise findings at internal (intra- and inter-departmental) project team and community of practice meetings
- Demonstrates strong interpersonal communications by establishing and using existing working relationships with ADPE department members, Discovery Sciences and BPD within the company
- Provides training for students or members of department in processes, where necessary
Essential Criteria
- Bachelor/Master of Science degree in life sciences with equivalent experience or PhD in relevant field
- Experienced protein purification scientist with ability to proactively contribute to development of new or improved processes
- Strong, professional communication skills and excellent attention to detail, capable of developing good working relationships with diverse individuals across organisational boundaries and experience working within a team environment
- Has scientific curiosity and proactively develops knowledge
- Acts with integrity and does the right thing
