We are looking for a Bioinformatician with a strong background in design, development and implementation of bioinformatics algorithms, tools and pipelines for genomics and other -omics data analysis. As part of the Genomics team you will have the opportunity to work closely with some of the world's top academic institutions, healthcare providers, and pharmaceutical companies. You will work hands-on with researchers, data scientists and software engineers to solve bioinformatic challenges and will lead the design, implementation, and improvement of computational pipelines in cloud scalable environments.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for design, development, enhancement of bioinformatics tools and solutions.
  • Bring knowledge of best practices to contribute to robust bioinformatics development processes.
  • Work with the software development team in translating prototyped analytics pipelines to production-grade and cloud scalable solutions.
  • Leverage skills in software architecture and development to resolve complex bioinformatics and infrastructure issues.
  • Prototype end-to-end analysis pipelines using existing tools/algorithms or develop novel tools/algorithms as needed.
  • Build evaluation frameworks and defining key metrics to benchmark and measure performance.
  • Maintain and advance knowledge and skills across bioinformatics, computational biology, genomics and cloud technologies.
  • Demonstrate thought leadership in the bioinformatics and genomics space and credibly represent Microsoft at global industry events, conferences, symposiums, etc.
  • Write technical documents, blog posts, publish in top journals or conferences

Qualifications

  • Master's (7 years’ experience) or Ph.D. (4 years’ experience) in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computer Science, Computational Biology, or a related discipline.
  • Deep experience with bioinformatics tools and algorithm development.
  • Demonstrated experience working with genomics / -omics data in an academic, clinical, or industrial setting.
  • Experience collaborating on pipelines with external user groups (both bioinformaticians and non-bioinformaticians).
  • Proficiency with one or more scripting language (Python, R) and programming language (Java, C family, Scala).
  • Experience with bioinformatics workflow languages such as WDL and CWL.
  • Familiarity with data science and machine learning technologies.
  • Understanding of enterprise systems, high-performance computing, and cloud technologies as it relates to genomics workloads and pipelines.
  • Proven track record of driving decisions collaboratively, resolving conflicts and blockers with creative problem-solving, and following through with exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Track record of producing high-quality work, being self-directed, and having timely execution.
  • Keen awareness and ability to stay abreast of technical and scientific trends.
