Job Description

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Senior Scientist Deployment, are to: 

 

  • Member of the Global Breeding Team;
  • Accelerate the impact of new technologies in the Breeding Programs;
  • Design, develop, implement and execute technical strategy required for design and development of pipeline and operations improvements aligned with the overarching strategy within region;
  • Support/Lead key projects on implementation of Precision Breeding Technical innovations within region;
  • Integrate multi-function teams across North America and partner across other world regions (LATAM, EMEA and APAC) to support innovation projects for Precision Breeding, with a key focus on driving genetic gain and product performance through digital transformation and new technology development and deployment;
  • Support the Health Safety and Environment, Compliance, Business Conduct and Human Rights policies and culture;
  • Accelerate the implementation and optimization of advanced breeding models and workflows with all crop breeding pipeline globally;
  • Drive progress and understanding of new global technical strategies in Precision Breeding by maximizing stakeholder engagement and amplifying Bayer LIFE values and a collaborative Team of Teams culture;
  • Partner with technical data science leads, domain experts and regional breeding pipelines to increase adoption of new tools and techniques that maximize breeding program design;
  • Lead deployment projects and drive the portfolio phase-gate process, analyze results, report research findings and recommendations to key stakeholders and leadership teams;
  • Coordinate and communicate with planning and enablement teams the execution and implementation of large-scale validation experiments in development and deployment of new methodologies and maximize the utilization of global germplasm;
  • Contribute and align to global and regional initiative teams working on scaling enhancements towards genetic gain and operational efficiencies;
  • Travel to meet with breeding teams and field sites, attend scientific conferences and network with external thought leaders to continuously expand knowledge of new innovations in digital agriculture, plant breeding and genetics.

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Ph.D. with 4+ years related experience OR Master’s degree with 8+ years of related experience OR Bachelor's  with 10+ years of related experience in Plant Breeding, Agronomy, Horticulture, Data Science, Genomics, Computational Biology or related life science field;
  • 2+ years of experience demonstrating success developing comprehensive plans and delivering results through effective project leadership, collaboration and influencing cross functional teams;
  • Track-record of creatively defining key results and driving technical business solutions both independently and through cross-functional project teams;
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (both written and oral) with proven ability to convey complex ideas in a clear, precise and actionable manner to diverse teams at all levels of the organization;
  • Experience building consensus and leading teams through influence while working with strict deadlines in a highly demanding and agile environment;
  • Ability to contingency plan and risk-adjust to meet timelines and deliver results of multiple projects;
  • Ability to travel independently up to 15% (domestic and international) with overnight stays and extended assignments;
  • Familiarity with and demonstrated ability to perform data analysis with large data sets.
