AbbVie Precision Medicine Oncology team is seeking a motivated and experienced Sr. Scientist to advance translational research for our late-stage clinical pipeline. The Translational Oncology group within Precision Medicine at AbbVie uses advanced technologies to study cancer biology, discover biomarkers and mechanism of action of different drugs in AbbVie’s innovative Oncology pipeline. The selected candidate will work with a senior scientist at AbbVie on experimental execution of different aspects of translational research. He / she will be responsible for the designing and performing various experiments, employing different methods to elucidate mechanism of sensitivity /resistance of different therapeutics and identify/validate mechanism-based combinations. The candidate is expected to have strong scientific foundation in cancer research and expertise in implementation of a wide range of biochemical, molecular, and cell-based assays and readouts. Key Responsibilities: Interrogate target biology, implement and interpret data from preclinical and clinical studies to conceive and execute novel scientific research that can advance AbbVie’s oncology late-stage pipeline and approved therapeutics. Independently devise, execute, and analyze hypothesis-driven translational research experiments to identify PD biomarkers, mechanisms of resistance, inform patient selection and test novel drug-combinations to advance the Abbvie oncology pipeline Routinely utilize broad molecular and cellular methodologies (e.g., RT-PCR, proliferation and apoptosis assays, western blotting, ELISA and in-vitro cell-based assay) Accountable for generating, analyzing and presenting data, generating hypotheses and unique ideas with robust experimental plan. Effectively partner within a highly matrixed organization, within Precision Medicine & with other AbbVie cross-functional colleagues to deliver high-quality data and drive the advancement of therapeutic candidates Qualifications Basic Qualifications Include: PhD with a minimum of 3+ year of experience or Master degree with minimum of 8+ years of the drug development. Previous experience in translational research and / or drug discovery in pharma/biotech industry is desired. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in working as part of a multi-disciplinary team focused on the discovery and advancement of novel therapeutic mechanisms as well as having a sustained track record of delivering high quality datasets. Strong scientific background in tumor biology and apoptosis, supported by publication record in these areas Strong scientific foundation in the understanding and implementation of a wide range of biochemical and cell-based assays and readouts. Deep understanding of the role of translational research/medicine and clinical biomarkers in drug development. Hands-on experience with developing and implementing translational biomarker strategies to align with clinical development objectives. Proactive and able to work effectively and independently or under minimal supervision on multiple projects in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Demonstrated ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as analyze, critically interpret, report data and communicate results and research conclusions. Ability to multitask and work within timelines along with interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills are highly desired. Proven flexibility to deal with changing timelines and shifting work priorities Experience in genomic data mining and bioinformatic and /or gene editing tools is nice to have but not required.
