As a Senior Scientist I within AbbVie Drug Delivery Sciences, you will work as a key part of a talented, multidisciplinary, and cross-functional team to build cutting-edge new capabilities for the sustained delivery of biologics, and small molecules and advance product candidates through early R&D. The ideal candidate has demonstrated research experience in polymer chemistry, has outstanding oral and written communication skills, and has the desire and capacity to grow as part of a dynamic, high performing team. Responsibilities Plans, coordinates, and executes the preparation and testing of novel sustained release formulations Applies an in-depth understanding of organic and analytical chemistry to design novel sustained release formulations Coordinates cross-functional activities with key stakeholders Maintains timely and accurate laboratory records consistent with good documentation practices Contributes to AbbVie's patent estate Responsible for compliance with all applicable Corporate and Divisional policies and procedures This position requires the individual to work with and in areas requiring select agents and Toxins access (i.e. Biosafety level 2 and biosafety level 3 laboratories). Access to and use of select agents is regulated by federal policies. Therefore, the candidate must conduct all work activities in compliance with AbbVie internal and applicable regulatory requirements. AbbVie internal requirements include compliance with ethics, environmental health and safety, financial, human resources, and general business policies, requirements, and objectives This position requires the individual to work with and in areas requiring select agents and Toxins access (i.e. Biosafety level 2 and biosafety level 3 laboratories). Qualifications Basic Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education and typically 10 years of experience, Master’s Degree or equivalent education and typically 8 years of experience, PhD and no experience necessary. Possess thorough theoretical and practical understanding of own scientific discipline. Willingness to travel up to 15% of the time Essential Skills and Abilities A thorough knowledge of organic and analytical chemistry will be required Hands-on experience in analytical characterization techniques including NMR, MS, GPC, HPLC, rheology will be essential Experience in the research and development of novel drug delivery systems will be desired The successful candidate will have a solid track record of peer-reviewed publications and presentations at a national-level conferences Excellent scientific approach and communication skills, both oral and written, are prerequisites Good interpersonal and collaboration skills A strong sense of urgency and ability to operate in a highly dynamic and fast-paced environment A desire and capacity to learn, drive continuous improvement, and develop novel solutions to problems .
