Drug Product Development is responsible for designing and developing formulations that enable delivery of AbbVie’s candidate molecules in a dosage form which is intended for product commercialization. We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Scientist in the Formulation Sciences group based in North Chicago, IL. AbbVie is seeking a highly motivated and collaborative scientist with skillsets in the design, characterization and understanding of solid oral dosage forms Responsibilities: Lead the formulation design for small molecule development candidates within the AbbVie pipeline. Interface to drug product development teams to ensure that biopharmaceutical and physicochemical considerations are incorporated into formulation design. Advance scientific expertise within function. Proactively demonstrate leadership by advising and sharing knowledge and expert opinions with subordinates, peers, and senior management. Ensure development of technologies and scientific innovation that improve the capability to formulation small molecules within the AbbVie pipeline Collaborate with other functions within AbbVie to align a broad range of strategies that directly support drug discovery and development programs Ensure compliance with AbbVie safety, quality and regulatory policies and government regulations Qualifications Basic: BS (typically 10-12) or MS (typically 8-10) or PhD (typically 0-4) years of relevant experience in Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering Preferred: Experience in physico-chemical characterization of small molecules. Experience in the characterization and formulation of small molecules. Experience in the characterization of amorphous solids, especially the dynamics of amorphous solids and crystallization behavior. Experience with analytical approaches toward physicochemical characterization of pharmaceutical dosage forms (i.e. HPLC, DSC, TGA, PXRD, dissolution, etc.). Fundamental understanding of physicochemical properties as related to formulation design. Fundamental understanding of oral drug absorption and pharmacokinetics. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team setting Key AbbVie Competencies: Builds strong relationships with peers and cross functional partners to enable higher performance.
