At AbbVie the Genomics Research Center (GRC) is a center of excellence for genetics and genomics that supports both Discovery and Development. Within the GRC, the Department of Bioinformatics/Computational Biology is responsible for data analysis and provides analytical insights for both internal and external data. AbbVie’s Neuroscience Discovery advances research to identify novel therapeutic approaches for neurodegenerative disorders like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Disease.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Computational Biologist/Bioinformatician, based in Cambridge, MA embedded in Neuroscience Discovery. The successful candidate will work closely with bioinformatics and wet-lab groups in Cambridge (MA), Ludwigshafen (Germany) and North Chicago (IL) to contribute to target and biomarker identification, validation, and project advancement by OMICS data analysis.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop strategies for and perform integrated analysis of high dimensional OMICS data, with a special focus on mass spec proteomics data analysis and its integration with transcriptomics.
  • Support early stage drug discovery for neurological diseases especially Alzheimer’s Disease and Parkinson’s Disease by analysis of data from consortia, preclinical models, and clinical studies.
  • Evaluation, development and implementation of computational methods, pipelines and tools for data analysis and visualization.
  • Work in close collaboration with disease biology experts, statisticians and bioinformaticians within AbbVie. Objectives, strategies, and results are discussed in interdisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

Qualifications: 

Position will be hired based on level of experience. 

  • Bachelors, Masters or PhD in Bioinformatics, (Bio)statistics, (Bio)Mathematics or related disciplines with a strong focus on data analysi with typically 10-12+ (BS), 8-10+ (MS) or 0-4+ (PhD) years' of academic or industry experience.
  • 5-10+ years’ experience in hands-on analysis of OMICS data (including PhD), optimally in analysis of mass spectrometry protein quantification, other proteomics technologies and post translational modifications.
  • Experience in basic Neuroscience research and/or Neuroscience drug discovery is a plus.
  • Fluency in one or more relevant programming languages, such as R or Python.
  • Very good communication skills demonstrated in inter-disciplinary teams.
