As a Senior Scientist I/II within AbbVie Drug Delivery Sciences, you will work as a key part of a talented, multidisciplinary, and cross-functional team to build cutting-edge new capabilities for the sustained delivery of biologics, and small molecules and advance product candidates through early R&D. The ideal candidate has demonstrated research experience in polymer chemistry, has outstanding oral and written communication skills, and has the desire and capacity to grow as part of a dynamic, high performing team. Responsibilities Plans, coordinates, and executes the synthesis and characterization of polymers and polymer-based materials Applies an in-depth understanding of polymer chemistry to design novel sustained release formulations Prepare, and test the performance of new drug-loaded sustained release formulations Coordinates cross-functional activities with key stakeholders Maintains timely and accurate laboratory records consistent with good documentation practices Contributes to AbbVie's patent estate Responsible for compliance with all applicable Corporate and Divisional policies and procedures Position can be hired as a Senior Scientist I or II based on the candidate's education and level of experience. Qualifications Basic Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education and typically 12 years of experience, Master’s Degree or equivalent education and typically 10 years of experience, PhD and typically 4 years of experience. PhD degree in organic or polymer chemistry preferred. Possess thorough theoretical and practical understanding of own scientific discipline. Effective writer and communicator of research or other regulatory materials. Willingness to travel up to 15% of the time Essential Skills and Abilities A thorough knowledge of polymer chemistry and synthesis will be essential Hands on experience in polymer characterization techniques including NMR, GPC, light scattering, DSC, and rheology will be required Prior research experience in the design and development of polymer-based sustained drug release formulations will be desired The successful candidate will have a solid track record of peer-reviewed publications and presentations at a national-level conferences in polymer chemistry Excellent scientific approach and communication skills, both oral and written, are prerequisites Good interpersonal and team skills A strong sense of urgency and ability to operate in a highly dynamic and fast-paced environment A desire and capacity to learn, drive continuous improvement, and develop novel solutions to problems Key Leadership Competencies Deals comfortably with risk and ambiguity, changing course when needed Lives AbbVie values.
