YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Senior Scientist I, are to: 

 

  • Demonstrate broad and in-depth knowledge of scientific concepts and apply this expertise to the drug discovery/development process by either enabling a go/no go decision or by bringing in value added assays or technology platforms;
  • Lead projects independently and make major contributions to a project team;
  • Ensures that junior members of the scientific staff contribute to the overall success of the project;
  • Make project proposals and regular contributions of constructive advice to projects not under own direction;
  • Serve as a member on global project teams;
  • Have advance disease biology understanding and target identification in diseases using genomics and transcriptomics approaches;
  • Apply the findings of gene expression studies in the assigned TA to identify new mechanisms, pathways and finally druggable targets for the development of novel and causative therapies;
  • Interface with various external or internal research teams potentially on a global level to generate new ideas and exercises sound judgment to solve a wide range of difficult scientific problems;
  • Be an ambassador for the Bayer brand externally, supporting Bayer's perception as a "partner of Choice”;
  • Interpret and effectively communicate complex scientific findings in one-on-one discussions, and department and functional and global meetings.

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Ph.D. in Life Sciences with at least eight years of relevant experience in the biopharma industry or equivalent;
  • Drug development expertise, including demonstrated ability to manage projects and work in a multidisciplinary context and to develop and work in a partnership with external scientists (academic and industry);
  • Previous experience as part of a project team and demonstrated success with significant contributions to major milestones of project either by applying a broad range of scientific and technical principles;
  • Previous experience supervising employees in a scientific setting;
  • Demonstrated ability to design, execute, analyze, and interpret experiments, systems, methods development, validation, scale-up or operations which leads to significant impact on a project or the strategic direction of the department;
  • Demonstrated scientific/technical leadership abilities through major contributions to new or advanced technologies and new concept research areas;
  • Ability to apply scientific principles to the design and interpretation of scientific experiments;
  • Demonstrated success for technical proficiency, scientific creativity, collaboration with others and independent thought;
  • Demonstrated ability to present ongoing scientific and technical work at internal and departmental seminars;
  • Ability to build relationships through inter-organization collaborations;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including writing of scientific and technical reports and presentations;
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft suite of Software (Word, and Excel).
