Oncology is a key therapeutic area for AbbVie, with a portfolio consisting of three marketed products — Imbruvica, Venclexta, and Empliciti — and a pipeline containing multiple promising new molecules that are being studied in nearly 200 clinical trials in 19 different types of cancer. More than 1,000 AbbVie scientists, clinicians, and product developers with strong entrepreneurial roots work across these three sites. They combine their expertise in immuno-oncology, stem cells, and cell-signaling with their knowledge of bispecific antibodies, antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), and covalent-inhibitor technologies to discover and develop novel cancer treatments. This position is based at AbbVie’s new South San Francisco, CA location. We are looking for a talented and driven Senior Scientist II cancer biologist with in-depth understanding of cancer genetics and epigenetics driven dependency biology to join our Tumor Dependency department in South San Francisco. The successful candidate will play a key role in the identification, validation and mechanistic understanding of novel targets that present cancer selective dependencies such as synthetic lethality and oncogenic pathway addiction. The position requires experiences to design, execute and analyze transcriptomics and proteomics experiments to dissect the mechanisms of action of novel targets. The candidate will lead the target biology to enable early-stage drug discovery by developing and implementing a variety of biochemical and cell-based methods to elucidate target function and enable small molecule screening efforts. Above all, we are looking for a highly motivated and collaborative individual with a passion for oncology research, who enjoys working in a fast-paced and highly dynamic working environment Validate targets using variety of knockdown, knockout, knockin and over-expression of genes approaches to elucidate functions in cancer cell lines Oversee the generation and analysis of high-quality experimental data to identify and confirm the mechanism of action of lead compounds identified through target discovery efforts Presenting data and findings across various platforms, including project teams and extended research and discovery organization meetings Using decision making, organizations and communication skills to effectively collaborate with colleagues from cross-functional teams Maintain an up-to-date understanding of new technologies and relevant scientific advances in tumor dependencies and its roles in cancer from literature and scientific meetings Demonstrate the ability to resolve key project hurdles and assumptions by effectively utilizing available information and technical expertise Publish research in peer-reviewed journals and present work at scientific conferences May mentor/supervise a team of one or more and guide and evaluate the performance of those individuals; is accountable for the effective performance of the team/individuals Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education and typically 12 years of experience, Master’s Degree or equivalent education and typically 10 years of experience, PhD and typically 4 years of experience.
